Cobourg Five Star Chinese Restaurant

Five Star is clean, bright and friendly. The family are welcoming and accommodating, and especially careful dealing with allergies. Very good value across a very broad selection of North American-Chinese dishes. There are tables and chairs for about 20 to dine in, but most business is take-out.

Got take out from here today for lunch and it was quite excellent. For once I can say i wasn't hungry an hour after eating Chinese food. Pad Thai was yummy.

Nothing special - the same as any other fast chinese food restaurant. Fast friendly service but will not be winning any Master Chef Canada awards anytime soon. A bit expensive for just a meal.

The staff were very pleasant but that is where it ended. I ordered egg rolls which were your average frozen deep fried offering, hot and sour soup which was very good. Then we get to the squid and garlic sauce - where was the garlic??? the squid was like rubber and the dish was mostly vegetables. The Seafood tai dop voy which is supposed to be a mix of shrimp, scallops, crabmeat, lobster and vegetables in a white sauce. No scallops, artificial crabmeat, half of a very overcooked lobster tail in a cornstarch sauce what was undercooked so had a chalky taste. I was looking forward to my "once a month treat" only to be very disappointed. Could do better in my own kitchen.

We have enjoyed take out the food was hot, well prepared, very tasty, and a quick friendly service. They serve authentic Chinese food as well as other Asian food.
