Perfect start of our short trip to Italy. We had something to try from everyone and an excellent fish soup. Thank you very much. We really enjoyed our stay in this little gem of a restaurant.
Always delicious dishes, super fresh fish and well cooked. cozy and well kept exterior
I would like not to like the type of local and the type of service offered, but the excellent raw material used and the mastery of the chef make this place a place to visit surely. excellent light and recommended frying, made as a rule of art like other delicacies of Ligurian tradition. suitable price for service and local. small choice in wine paper.
A marvellous experience. L'Anciua functions as a kind of takeaway but with a garden to eat in. Tables chairs etc provided. Go to the counter and order your food and it is brought out to you on compostable paper plates with compostable plastic cutlery and glasses. It seems like a way to get around a restaurant /takeaway loophole, and all the better for it. Don't let that somewhat Spartan approach put you off though. The selection of fish is excellent, both fresh cooked and fried and the portions are more than sufficient. Fritto misto and fried Anchovies were delicious as was the spaghetti and mussels and stuffed anchovies. We didn't order the Orata or Octopus with potatoes, but a peek at another table made us wish that we had. Very casual, very down to earth and good natured surroundings and service and excellent wine, including Cinque Terre at approaching supermarket not restaurant prices. The Coffee (made in a mokka) and Amari are a Also offered free. The price was perfectly honest, bearing in mind you would probably pay double if the food was served on China. As in a fast food joint, they ask you to clear away your table into the bins provided which is actually great as, for a minimum effort you immediately have an empty table in front of you to enjoy coffee and conversation They source the fish daily and close on Mondays as there is no fishing that day. My only caveat would be a lack of condiments such as Gremolada or a good mayo for dipping, but that is a minor quibble. If you find yourself out here I cannot recommend this place highly enough. A real Gem.
