Taberna Do Romal - Coimbra

My daughter suggested a restaurant serving the pratos do dia Plates of the day and we found this tiny one in a square off the main streets. Two courses with wine and coffee for 7 euros. We had the bacalhau a bras, which was delicious. The owner was friendly and made us very welcome. Most of the diners were locals- always a good sign!

As per other reviews, fast service, great value local food. We had rabbit and fish, cooked local style. Vegetable soup to start, fruit salad to finish and a few glasses of wine. Highlight was the confit potatoes with the rabbit.

Although this place is tiny and it was quite busy, the owner managed to find us somewhere to sit. We enjoyed a delicious lunch in the company of workmen, businessmen and other tourists. The food was served promptly and was good honest stuff. We liked it very much and thought it excellent value.

Taberna do Romal is located in a small square very close to the best shopping area in Coimbra. All along my lunch there I could not hear any car, any motobike... The service was absolutely friendly, as if I were in family. The place is a traditional tavern, so that you must not have in mind all the kind of decoration and services usual in a restaurant intended to host tourists. Taberna do Romal does not pay attention to tourists, they receive all the people as persons, as neighbours, as friends. Beyond this good ambiance, food is extraordinarily well cooked. Cod is excellent, but my advice is just to hear to their recommendations.
