Our server took our drink order but advised us to wait before ordering food. After about 10 minutes, the bartender stepped in as our server, and we placed our food orders with her. Later, when we inquired about our drinks, we found out that the initial server hadn’t communicated our order, leading to a significant delay. When our food arrived, we realized we didn't have any utensils, so we had to flag down the bartender for assistance, but she didn't seem to notice us trying to get her attention. On a positive note, the mac and cheese was delicious, and the burger was cooked to perfection. Overall, the food was good, but given the subpar service and high prices, it didn't feel like we got our money's worth.
**Food:** I really appreciate that the kitchen stays open until midnight! The food is surprisingly tasty for bar fare. There are healthier options available, but I highly recommend the fries! As someone who is gluten-free, I had no trouble finding delicious menu items and ciders to enjoy. **Service:** This was my biggest concern. Each time we needed something, we had to make eye contact from across the bar or flag down our server, who was always engaged in conversation with the bartender. When I asked for a box for my leftovers, the server brought it and cleared our plates, but then left without checking if we were ready for the bill, requiring us to flag them down again. **Menu:** While there are great choices, some of the descriptions were a bit misleading, though that might just be my perspective. I expected the sharable peppers to be small enough for the group to share, but instead, we received two very large peppers that were messy and hard to cut. The Buffalo chicken dip we ordered was excellent, but it didn’t come with the dipping items listed on the menu, and the chips crumbled when touched, which was frustrating. Overall, it’s a decent place for drinks and food; it just needs a few adjustments to really shine.
I absolutely adore this place. Every week, I find myself wondering, "Where should I go for dinner?" And every week, I end up thinking, "Wendy's." However, I'm trying to elevate my dining experiences a bit. I don't want to be too pretentious, so Spaghetti Warehouse is off the table (rest in peace), but City Tavern perfectly strikes the balance I'm looking for. The staff is incredibly fun, and there's always a nice crowd hanging out. I really enjoy the atmosphere. It's definitely the best bar in Columbus!
I love this place. Great food that fits any budget or dining preference, an extensive cocktail and beer menu with one of the best bourbon lists in the city, and friendly/attentive/accommodating service. Add to all that one of the best views of the downtown skyline and free parking and you have a neighborhood bar/restaurant that?ll keep you coming back. Highly recommended!
You ever really crave a type of food, anticipate it, and realize you made the wrong choice after the first bite? That was my experience here. For the price of the food it didn?t seem that the quality matched up. I?ve had juicier and more flavorful burgers at Wendy?s for $8 less? Burger: Seemed like a pre made frozen patty, extremely dry, 3 minuscule and overcooked mushrooms on top, and no aioli as was advertised. Fries: Dry and had that slightly burnt taste. Additionally, they forgot toppings on the side that came on another burger. I don?t know if whoever was in the kitchen that day didn?t care but I won?t be spending money on this place again. I could have gone anywhere else and gotten a better burger for the same or lesser price. Disappointing to say the least.
