To begin with it is quite overpriced for the portion sizes (see photo of the piece of salmon compared to my thumb, not even close in size and my hands are pretty small). The 2 pieces of Nigiri I got here equal the size of one piece from other sushi restaurants in Columbus and what I got here cost 2x as much. If you get the Nigiri be aware that they put Wasabi between the fish and the rice to hold it together (which was not mentioned on the menu or when ordering) so that completely ruined the taste for me. The roll I got said deep fried but only the fish in the roll was deep fried, that was not clear. Anywhere else I have gotten this roll, the whole roll has always been deep fried. And every question we asked the girl taking the order had no idea what the answer was (she was nice), so even trying to verify descriptions ect was difficult. Tobiko was ok, the quality of Salmon seemed ok but hard to tell bc of Wasabi, redsnapper in the roll was quite chewy. Last but not least only parking available is at a meter or a paid lot in front of North Market. So you are also going to pay for parking on top of the increased price of the food here.
The best Miso soup we've had outside of California. The sushi was flavorful and the right bit size pieces. We asked for gluten free and they were able to meet our needs. Bottle of wines are reasonably priced.
This was the second time we've eaten at Kooma. It surprises me that such a good little sushi shop is hiding there beside a parking garage. Fresh ingredients, expertly prepared, and presented. So good. We even had someone with us that had never tried sushi and he enjoyed most of the rolls
Sushi was good but nothing that blew me away. id probably eat here again but i wouldn?t go out of my way to choose this place again. i got the kooma roll tuna nigiri and it was average. the miso soup alone is what made this a 4/5 rating (full star for the miso soup). service was quick and the staff was nice when picking up my to-go order.
My wife and I were in town on business and wanted sushi before heading home. My wife has Celiac though so we are always cautious when we get food especially away from home. We made a point to ask the server if they had Gluten-Free soy sauce etc. before we sat down so as not to waste their time and we were glad to know that they had a gluten-free menu. We made a point to ask for everything we ordered gluten free and my wife ordered specifically so that we knew that it was to her liking. Our server assured us it would be. Once it arrived though one of the rolls did have tempura in it simply because the server didn't make the right note when putting in the order. They were nice enough to take the roll off the order, but it wasn't enough to have to deal with my wife's insides revolting for 2 days afterward and not trusting the rest of what we ate. We ended up leaving the rest of the other roll that we'd gotten.
