We visited Hotel de Bain twice during our stay in Comps (a charming village by the way) Our first evening was for my wife's birthday and we were well served on the terrace. The food was ok my wife's duck was on the fatty...side but was poorly presented; we expect better in France. The bill was fairly hefty for food of this quality but we thought it good enough to return. My wife and I visited a few days later and sat inside this time. We were asked immediately if we wanted an aperitif but were not ready to choose so I requested a drinks menu. Some 45 minutes later we were still waiting to give our drinks order so we walked out. I appreciate the restaurant had filled up by this point but the service was simply not good enough.
If you're going from Draguignan to the Gorges du Verdon or maybe even towards Greolieres Les Neiges to ski, you'll probably pass your the very small village of Comps sur Artuby. If so, don't just drive through take the time to stop at the Hotel Bain...to have a coffee or a meal t0o break the journey. It's well worthwhile because the service is friendly.
The Family Bain is in their kitchen since 11 generations! Since 1737! They have the same recipes since the time of the kings! It is a very low key place, an old postal stop, nothing too fancy but very cute, clean, rooms have all comfort...and the restaurant is juste wonderful. Waiters know their food to perfection and the Chef comes to wish you a bon appetit! I will recommend the fresh tagliatelles with cream and black truffle, but really you need to stay a few days just to try out all the menu. Desserts are amazing too! The location is great to visit the Alpes de Haute Provence. They have a restaurant in California too. Once again: Bravo to the Bain Family!
Usually known as Gooc Square to eat....we were greeted by a waiter in a jogging and dirty shoes. he seemed to be an untrained service individual. as one of the first guests, with a reservation, we have our not very refined dishes as. the last. had to wait for brot - during the starter- for 20 minutes! totally underoccupied! to avoid.
