I'm so happy I had the opportunity to try this restaurant I have never had Puerto Rican so this was a treat! Customer Service was amazing! The young lady that took my order was really nice and patient with me taking time to explain what things were on the menu. I placed my order and the food came out hot and fresh. Food was delicious I really enjoyed the Mr. Pig sandwich I will definitely be ordering that again. Take a look at what I ordered.
Location: it 's hiding behind SPX on the Beltline, unless you 're able to find parking on Auburn Avenue I would recommend parking near Krog and walking the short distance on the Beltline to get here. If you walk on the side of James Room and go up the stairs, it 's literally just on the right when you get to the top of the stairs.I honestly wish I could give this a better review....after hitting up the Beltline, I came here to pick up a meal (through a Yelp event); I ordered it on their website and was told I could pick up my lunch by 12:30pm. I got there a tad early (around 12:15) and my order wasn 't ready...no biggie. And before I go further, I have to say how NICE the staff was! The entire time they were incredibly nice and hospitable. I didn 't get my food and leave until after 1:15...I waited AN HOUR for my food. I am VERY fortunate that I didn 't have work that day, or else I could have been in big trouble. However, the staff was incredibly apologetic and honest about the entire situation. Apparently the cook got in late due to a personal issue, and he was very honest and transparent with those that were waiting. I completely respect businesses that are honest and communicate when things go wrong, so I have to give big kudos to the staff. Now for the food....(keep in mind, I have never eaten Puerto Rican food so I can 't comment on the authenticity of the food. Just my opinions on the flavor itself) For me, the rice and beans just lacked seasoning. They were tender and well cooked, it just had little to no spice or flavor. There was also a, what I 'm going to call, a potato cake kind of thing and I saw a sliced plantain in the center...so I expected it to be a little sweet. It was honestly so dry and also had little to no flavor. The pork, however, was really tender. I loved the rub on it (it was almost like an espresso/cocoa rub) so that was my favorite part of the lunch. But the dessert....the little tres leches cake....WAS SO GOOD!!! Oh man, if you have the chance to eat this, then get it.
Coming from Miami, we have been missing us some Cuban food....so we found this place. Mi Abuela cooked us up some tasty Cuban sandwiches. Not on the traditional Cuban bread I am accustom to but still sooo good. The tostones were great too. At the end we finished with tres leches... omg.. yum. The empanada was great too. I would suggest ordering ahead since it took some time to get our food, but I guess Abuelas are not meant for their speed.
Food is AMAZING but takes SOOOO long. Went there to grab sandwich for lunch and it took 50 minutes from when I ordered to when I got my food. That being said, the pig Cuban sandwich is one of the best sandwiches ive ever had and the pastrami was great as well. Just don't go if you are in a rush.
