Waiting was also a joke about an hour for the starter then over an hour from starter to main simply not acceptable, based on this, we would not be back
A very pleasant experience, health food and service was exceptional
I look forward to our dinner booking in Plas Maenan. This is an honest review that is in no way intended to criticise the staff; they worked under a lack of management, supervision and training. They were literally from table to table, but not able to deliver the promised service. Upon arrival we were asked to sit in a lounge before our table was ready. This recommended the sophistication and ambience, but when sitting at the table it was clear that something was wrong. The set menu that was not available online, so we were not sure what was expected was with £35 pp for two courses. Everything should have been perfect for that. It wasn't. The table had no ceiling, the cutlery was laid on paper napkins the wrong way (folk to the right and knife to the left); the adjacent table had been cleaned a bit earlier and it was used linen and plates on the table that were cleaned halfway through our meal. We accepted the set menu that was limited in the area. The selection was very similar to what we had found in two local pubs, although portion sizes and presentation suggested fine food. The food was okay, not exceptional and certainly not worth £35 pp. A neighboring table asked for her drinks bill after she had waited too long for her order. Instead of dealing with the invoice immediately, the invoice was delayed and the drinks were charged as a goodwill gesture that they should have been written off (but this is not my problem). Our own order lasted long with appetizers served around 45 minutes after our arrival in the restaurant. The quality was acceptable, but not noticeable and very overpriced (proportional £10 for a starter). After we finished, I was asked if I wanted to order the desert to which I pointed out that I wanted to eat my main course first! The lamb was very similar to what I had seen in a local pub in the evening before for half the price (maybe £25 for the main). We went as soon as we could.
Large garden and garden space, only two employees who work, so had to wait for the service with time, and the fillet of steak and poached pear that we wanted this to be on the website was no option when we arrived:
We absolutely loved our meal at Plas Maenan. We had two children with us aged 4 and 7 and they had a pizza to share from the main menu. The staff were really accommodating and we had the most gorgeous view. We will be popping back when we come down for our next trip.
