My coworkers and I, a group of 5, recently dined at this restaurant. There was a wide selection of dishes on the menu to choose from. The service provided by the French waiter was friendly and efficient. We sampled a variety of items from the menu, and everything was served hot and delicious. The service overall was good, with no complaints. The restroom facilities were clean, modern, and well-maintained.
Wanted to take my year old grandmother out for lunch today and decided on The G&D. We arrived almost exactly at when they started serving. Upon placing orders we were warned they had just changed the oil in the fryer and so...any fish orders would be about minutes. Now, we were pleased they warned us as it gave us chance to grab some nibbles to stop grandmother's sugar levels dropping with her diabetes, however who on earth changes the fat just as food service begins?!?!?! Family conversation kept us going until minutes had passed ar which point I enquired if it would be much longer.....the lady came back and said the hold up was due to the fish platter but she could bring the other dishes now. We agreed to this as tummys were rumbling. minutes later my sons bacon and cheese burger arrived, great!!! minutes later more meals, but a further for the fish platter. We tucked in hoping the wait was worth it....sadly not. Granny's pie pastry was inedible having been cooked so long it was like concrete. Burgers were both good but both had burnt inside buns, and the long awaited fish platter had a fish cake so over cooked it couldn't cut into it and they had cleverly placed it upside down so you couldn't see the colour on the bottom. Nanny was asked if her pie was OK and when she said about the pastry was merely told we'll let the chef know no one came back after the other arrivals to ask about the food and really not surprised. So on the whole, waaay too long to wait and not worth it when it arrived. If we hadn't paid on ordering I am certain we would have left before food arrived.
Well how disappointing . We brought some friends to the Midland for a large birthday celebration and it was a disappointment (understatement of the centaurs). All the food, minus the Pattaya’s Bravas , Paxton peppers and the chorizo were clearly all from the freezer. Sure...chicken strips and wings . Calamari frozen STRIPS, and cold meatballs . It’s a shame really as the chorizo, peppers and potatoes were very tasty (so clearly what ever is being cooked fresh is of nice quality). The young man that served us was fab. Really polite , very quick , attentive and friendly. If it wasn’t for him I’d have spoken to the manager about the whole experience . He needs a raise ! What a shame the food isn’t up to scratch because it’s a great location and the decors trendy too. Very very expensive for frozen food. Why can’t restaurants get any decent chefs these days ?
The restaurant has an industrial decor and serves dishes at London prices that are quite average in quality. The dishes are presented plainly, with taco shells used as substitutes for leaves. The Mediterranean platter included bread rolls, a small amount of charcuterie, cheese, and salad items. There was no indication of whether the food was locally sourced, and the staff did not check back to see how the dishes were. Overall, the experience was underwhelming and overpriced, more fitting for a town like Conwy rather than Chelsea.
