Castle Knights Grill - Copeland

My wife and myself have just been here for Sunday Lunch. It was absolutely awful. I had beef which was virtually inedible. It was very fatty. It should never have been served to anyone. Most of th veg was only luke warm. The gravy was just like pouring grease onto your plate. We chose this venue because of the good positive reviews. We were shocked at how few customers there were when we arrived. I can only imagine the good reviews were posted by people who aren't very fussy what they eat. My wife had chicken. She said it was just OK again her veg was not hot enough. I did complain to the young girl who asked if everything was OK. She said I'll tell the chef. Considering how many people were in I would say service was very poor. We paid the full amount of the bill and left. I can still taste the grease in my mouth nearly four hours later. Yuk. We paid the bill in full and will definitely not be returning.

Amazing location , friendly staff , very family focused perfect food at great prices , Would strongly recommend.

We were looking for a pub where we could enjoy an evening meal while staying overnight in Whitehaven. Walking around the downtown area and along the waterfront, we didn’t see many suitable places. So we were very pleased to come across The Castle Knights as we walked back up the hill. It’s a nice space, attractively furnished and decorated, and very clean. The menu is varied and good value, and the meals came out in good time. We went for the pie of the day, and the steak….. We appreciated being able to order our meals with mash rather than the inevitable chips, and chose to add a side salad to get some more vegetables in. The dessert was a particular treat what a great sticky toffee pudding. This pub advertises itself as family and dog friendly which didn’t appeal to us, but on the evening we visited there were neither children nor dogs in, and we found it a very pleasant, relaxing place for a weeknight dinner.

Disappointing overall. The Sunday menu consisted of a standard pub Sunday lunch, scampi and the 1 portion of steak pie that was left. That was it. Nothing else from the main menu was available. We ordered 1 small and 2 regular sunday beef lunches, all 3 arrived the same size! Yorkshires were undercooked and pretty tasteless looking more like a pancake, one small roast potato only and the veg was rather overcooked. The beef was OK though. Steak pie OK but the mash with it was reported as tasteless. Even the person who had the bog standard pub scampi was disappointed. loads of raw onion in the salad and tasteless peas. Sorry, but we won 't be going back. Waiting staff were friendly, but we had to ask and wait for the condiments which really should have been provided automatically.

We thought we’d try this place after a recommend from family. Welcoming staff. Lovely food. Great seating area out the back. We will go again
