This is a friendly, unpretentious pub with pleasant and helpful staff. They had closed the kitchen when we arrived for dinner on our second visit but reopened it just for us. The menu is standard pub fare but the food is very good and plenty of it. There is an excellent selection of on tap local beers and lagers. As it is housed in a converted station building, the windows look out onto the station platforms a joy for train enthusiasts! The railway theme is reflected in the decor of the pub a nice touch of character. It is frequented by locals as well as tourists always a good sign!
We came for Sunday lunch after taking the Ravenglass to Dalegarth train. The Sunday lunch was excellent, as was the pint of Wainwrights. The landlady was lovely and the atmosphere was great. We returned that evening for another pint and received a warm welcome.
We visited for my dad’s 89th birthday. We ordered two burgers from the specials board and prawn sandwich and chips all were lovely. Jackie made a birthday cake for my dad which was lovely and much appreciated. Just for information the main menu and salads aren’t available at lunch time. The lunchtime menu is items from the specials board, sandwiches and baguettes. We will definitely be back.
Called in for Sunday lunch on a round trip as Ravenglass is not to far from us, I had heard good reports locally about the Ratty Arms but my wife and I were pleasantly surprised, the place was spotless including the toilets and the staff were really good even though the hostess was visibly suffering with a bug which she apologised for profusely for the slow service, the food was plentiful and really tasty, don't expect Michelin star but good wholesome FILLING home cooking, will definitely use again excellent value for the money and a good range of hand pulled ales
