We Booked an afternoon tea to celebrate an anniversary and a belated birthday and have never been so disappointed. Asked for Prosecco, they had none, a hotel of this size and reputation...no Prosecco! We asked for a wine list and there was only two other sparkling alternatives, a french champagne and a Cornish sparkling wine. We ordered the Cornish one and it came in an ice bucket. We were served a glass each and the ice bucket placed out of reached. That was the last time we were served any of the bottle of wine by a member of staff, from then on I had to get up and serve my husband and myself and find a napkin to wrap the bottle in! A waiter then brought our tea order, tea for two and Earl Grey for one (which is served with fresh lemon separately) he had only brought a pot of tea for one and he’d put the lemon into the pot of earl grey. He quickly rectified his mistake and told us he was new but this didn’t fill us with any confidence that our much anticipated celebration was going to get any better! Expectations were already lowered! The cakes and sandwiches arrived and were fine but we have certainly had better and for a head we all began to feel disappointed. There wasn’t enough jam and cream for the very dry scones and although we asked for more none appeared until we asked a second time. When the bill came we’d actually been charged for the Prosecco they didn’t have, we also asked them to remove the service charge, we are more than happy to reward good service but on this occasion we simply hadn’t received any and we certainly think its presumptuous to automatically add it to the bill! The Headland always had a fantastic reputation for quality and service but somewhere standards have slipped
Wendy and I had a wonderful afternoon tea here today. The tea was truly delightful and interesting that they change the selection monthly. May have to try March ha ha We were the last to leave the restaurant but felt no pressure to do so....Matthew was full of local history when we were asking about the hotel and local area all of which was fascination. Ryan was most attentive and is a credit to the hotel. Julie and Jesus gave great service. We thought they all made a great team and our experience all the more special. Hoping to live in the area soon so no doubt I will be back.
Truly wonderful service with huge smiles and by people who genuinely cared very refreshing. We had a two course meal. Loved the scallops and samphire starter and the bubble and squeak with egg main. Great music too.
We are staying for the weekend before Xmas. The staff are friendly and well trained. Breakfast is excellent. Perfectly cooked eggs Benedict. My question is…. Where did they get daffodils for the table in December? Lol
Travelling solo can be a pain for finding restaurants etc so as I was staying in the hotel I thought I would book with the in house restaurant. Foolishly I didn’t think to ask the price, expecting a menu, but on arrival was told it...was a buffet. Had booked and so went for it anyway, neglecting to ask the cost as a buffet can’t be expensive, can it? The food is tepid, very plain and generic, the veg laughable (roasted carrots, peas and broccoli boiled to death) and the price for this was per head!!!!…apparently more per head than last review. And they had the gall to then charge me for the water! Total bill for dinner was including wine and a tip!!! There are plenty of nice restaurants in the local area where you can get a nice meal and a bottle for cheaper, avoid this reheated rubbish at all costs
