We went with friends who had told us the pub had a new Pie menu for the autumn/winter! The atmosphere in the pub was really good and friendly, staff were polite (although there didn 't seem many of them) and efficient, doing a great job. I chose the steak pie, whilst my wife and our friends went for the chicken. All were delicious and had a real homemade presentation about them. These were proper pies with a whole pastry jacket, not just a pastry top! I had chips, peas and a pot of gravy, although I think I could have had a couple of types of mash, a good choice as these were real chips, not just frozen fries like most places. Accompanied with a nice pint of IPA, all in all a nice meal in a nice pub.
Booked a table of three in the dining room for Sunday lunch. When we sat at our table heard the table next to us ask how long the food would be as they’d waited 35 minutes already. We ordered immediately, just in case we’d have a long wait. Sure enough at 40 minutes we asked where our food was and were told 5 minutes. The table next to us we’re still waiting 45 minutes after ordering. If we’d been told there was such a long wait it it wouldn’t have been so bad! When the food arrived it was served, on what was, basically, tin camping plates. All three meals were absolutely swimming in gravy, two of us prefer just a little gravy, maybe a jug of gravy would be a better idea. I had pork, which was nearly all fat. My father and husband said the lamb was very tasty. We decided to go home and get something to eat to satisfy our appetites. When we went to pay the bill the lady behind the bar asked how our meal was and then walked away before hearing our response. Needless to say we will not be visiting again!
Lovely views along the river but the food was very very disappointing. We have been coming to this pub for over 30 years and this is the worst meal we have had.
We hadn't planned anything and spotted a sign on the A38 for a riverside pub. So we decided to check it out. What a lovely location. It was a bit cold and breezy and so we didn't take advantage of one of the riverside tables but went inside. It was nicely decorated. We were all very happy with our food. Now that we have been there we would definitely return on a sunny day for a riverside table.
