Feedback gevenDaniel fritz – coworker of the san gabriel tribune writes: while my experience in sandwich city is somewhat myopic, there is no question that if I were the adventurous type, this small sandwich shop would not be disappointed in the heart of the inner city of covina. during the estimated 160 lunch breaks that I had during my short period with the highlanders, I imagined that I spent at least 120 of them with an egg salad sandwich on shorts from this original restaurant. also the truthahn is great, but I'm usually with what I know. while some might think what 120 eiersalat sandwiches translated into dollar and cent, sandwich city modest price for each of their homemade sandwiches ranges between $5.95 and $6.95. for what they get — the sandwich, of course, the choice of kartoffel or makkaroni salat and a pickle disc — it is quite a bargain. the fact that I spent about $714 and that count on eiersandwiche should be enough testament. but do not take my word for it. a visit to the shop will provide a stress-free experience, with a friendly staff and, compared to most sandwich shops, quiet environment. the menu consists of sandwiches that they may expect to make their mother when they had a culinary background and a flair to bring creativity into two slices of brot. with many creations named after famous roads in covina, a customer might feel as if he had really arrived in the heart of the city. for example take the “Lark ellen Avenue”. it is essentially a waldorf salad between two slices short. then there is the “Hollenbeck Avenue” sandwich, the roast beef, creamy searettich, Cheddar cheese with mayo, salat and tomaten. for those who are more interested in what is healthy at sandwich city, a lot of salads, within the same price range, are also available. many have different combinations of fruit, vegetables and meat, all invented with the hopes that satisfy most picky of palate and for the desert I can recommend the bananenpudding. if they have not filled on sandwiches, this little tasty bite, served with nilla wafers and with whipped cream and mandelrases, will surely complete the “rounded” lunchtime. sandwich city is located at 117 n. citrus ave,. covina. they are seven days the week open. call for information or delivery (626) 966-7363.
