I would recommend eating Tostadas de Coyoacán on the market. But other things than clothes and souvenirs you can make it much cheaper in other places
We stopped by the market in Coyoacan after walking the town and Frida's Museum... our guide suggested what appears a modest, simple, unadorned quesadilla stand in the middle. Seating is communal. All of it is quite clean. Service was friendly, quick and considerate. The quesadillas...are to die for. Simple tortillas folded over different fillings including cheese of course. I HIGHLY recommend the squash flower quesadilla. Actually it is a must as it was the most flavorful and our family's favorite and we tried many which are all very good.
Pretty good food market with very low prices and good food. Not too varied options compared to nearby Mercado de Coyoacan.
Mind you , that as someone that grew up in Mexico City, though I have been gone for a long time, I did not realize that a quesadilla is more of the folded tortilla and you actually have to ask for queso (cheese) to be...added if that is what you were expecting to have. Try the chorizo and cheese one (if your stomach can handle chorizo). Sooooo gooood!
