It was a coincidence really - one night at Taronga Zoo and the next at the incredible Cremorne Orpheum for a movie, needing a meal on both evenings. Dai's Golden Crown is a small, unassuming restaurant that serves Chinese and Malaysian cuisine. We started with deep-fried wontons and san choi bao. Our main dishes were delicious mussels in black bean and chili sauce and steamed duck in crab sauce. Initially, I thought the food was simple and straightforward Chinese fare, but upon further reflection, I realized that the quality of the dishes was actually quite high. The meal was very tasty, and at under $80 for two people, including a glass of wine each, it was reasonably priced (we also received a discount with my Entertainment card).
The prawns at this restaurant are fantastic! It's a hidden gem. I highly recommend trying the honey prawns - they are delicious!
The food is delicious, Rachel is very welcoming and knowledgeable. I suggest dining in rather than getting takeout. I love the oriental atmosphere of the restaurant. The cream seafood soup is cooked to perfection. My favorites are the seafood cream soup, mee goreng (tastes very authentic), and the mongolian beef.
Have been dine in here for the last 20 years. Best chicken oil rice, still my family's favour dish
Beautiful meal, good service. I recommend the prawns here we had the prawn laksa as well as the salt and pepper prawns. Both dishes were delicious, evidently made with very fresh large prawns. We also enjoyed the deep fried ice cream at the end as a throwback to our childhood. It is a Chinese restaurant with a nostalgic feel to it, as if you have entered a time warp 20 years ago with some dated decor. This atmosphere makes it all the more authentic and true to style, it serves tasty authentic Chinese cuisine.
