It would be great if more funding could go toward updating these facilities. My only complaint is the restaurant buffet, which falls short of expectations. For a price similar to Golden Corral, the selection is much more limited and not quite as appealing. On a positive note, the staff is cheerful and helpful, and I can’t fault them at all.
There are many cabins to choose from, ranging from rustic to luxurious. During our two stays, we found them to be very clean. We particularly appreciate the older cabins, which were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Great Depression as a way to provide work and teach skills such as carpentry, electrical work, stone masonry, and road and trail construction, along with the building of a large dam. The craftsmanship is truly impressive.
This was our second camping trip to this location this year, and it is truly a beautiful area. I really enjoyed hiking around the lake. The only downside at the campground was that the water at our site wouldn’t completely shut off, resulting in a steady stream the whole time. I understand that they may be short-staffed like many places right now. Everything else was very positive. In many state campgrounds, you rarely see the camp hosts, but here they were active and available throughout the day, which we really appreciated. We hope to return a couple of times next year!
This is actually my second visit to the park. I really like this place because it's very serene and just so beautiful in nature and the best part is the viaduct bridge between the lake and waterfall. I was alone but this is a place best shared with thecompany of others. The Harvest restaurant is really a great place to dine especially with the view of the lake. Great placefor camping as well. People also swim here as well. There's a visitor center when you drive in to provide information.
My mom treated me, my sister, and our kids to a gals and kids trip to Cumberland Mountain State Park. We arrived on Wednesday and stayed through Friday in a Deluxe Cabin (2 bed, 2 bath). What a wonderful little getaway! The cabin was clean andcomfortable, though dated, but that was expected! The bathroom could use some TLC with the peeling wallpaper, but it didn'tbother us. The beds were SO comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed a toaster, coffee maker, can opener, dishes, pots and pans, etc. The restaurant hours were a little random, but we enjoyed lunch there on Thursday before taking the kids tothe huge pool. The ADA path along the lake is perfect for a quick walk, especially if you have a stroller. Overall we had awonderful time and hope to make trips here more frequently!
