El Gallo de Oro - Cuauhtémoc

A Coyoacan barista recommended Gallo’s buffet and so glad to have sought it out in Historic Center. Established in 1874 this restaurant/cantina embodies Old School from its no-nonsense decor, its long dark bar, to the giant bubbling cazuelas holding a dozen or more stews, beans, rice and vegetables that taste like the home cooking your Mexican grandma would proudly serve at a family gathering if you were so lucky. My 80 yr old server told me he had been working there thirty years and wasn’t thinking of retiring. Can’t say I’d blame him.

The place setting is nice, super 50s and the menu is always interesting. However, after a good meal the staff tried to make us pay 300 pesos extra on stuff that we never order. It took us 45 minutes to get everything in order but in that time they became quite menacing. I will never come back and would not recommend the place at all.

Hoy pase a conocer ese lugar ya q había muchas reseñas y buenos comentarios, sin embargo no fue lo q esperaba en la comida, pero sobre todo el servicio dejo mucho q desear, la mesera mal encarada se atraviesa sin decir nada, le pedías algo y no contestaba solo lo traía. En fin no lo recomiendo en lo personal. Ah! También muy caro

Es un lugar al cual mi papá asistía con sus amigos, hace muchos años, el murió hace 44 años y tuve oportunidad y privilegio de estar en el mismo lugar y en diferente tiempo! Excelente lugar!
