4.5 stars great care goes into this food. There are many signs in the very small space (only sushi bar seats in a narrow room and a few tables on the sidewalk). One sign implores 'no cell phone ' while another asks you to not make noise with your chopsticks, because, well, it 's rude. Hence, with the deep stress on not being rude, I snapped only one photo of the third sign that confronts you when you sit: an elaborate chastising of your soy sauce and wasabi habits: they are wrong. Detailed here, is how to do it 'right ' including a means of using soy sauce via a foaming dispenser. The sushi here is good. It 's thoughtfully made and it 's obvious that great care had gone into each piece. The singular thing about Shikibu is that the rice, and this is not an option, is brown. It 's not a deal breaker, but the signature mellow nuttiness of the brown rice, like it or not, is firmly present throughout and even in the spicy tuna roll, it adds an unfamiliar layer to the dish that may or may not be your jam.
If you like sushi and are looking for a quick little stop this is the place! What it lacks in size it makes up for in flavor! I recommend the crispy brown rice yellow tail and spicy tuna. Service is always great and welcoming.
I'm so glad we came here for lunch. Each roll was so good you didn't even need to add soy sauce. Even the Philadelphia roll seemed unique, possibly due to the brown rice and cream cheese. The service was great and very nice.
Places like this deserve 6 stars. The sushi bar is humble. The food is passionately made. Chef Thomas and his wife Sohpia approach what they do to their fullest. The food here is balanced in flavor. The rice is so delicious that to waste a grain istoo much. The sashimi was served at the perfect level of freshness and temperature. The crispy rice is something I've never hadbefore; it did not disappoint. I'm glad I chose something unique. I'd recommend trying out out. Thinking about normal sushirice and then rice here isn't the same. It changes the experience of the rolls. The Alaska and Chewbacca rolls make my mouthwater even thinking about it. The chefs choice on the special rolls is exquisite. I asked for his favorite roll. For that heserved us the godzilla. Because the ingredients used were so fresh and prepared with such care, a usually greasey roll was richwith smokey flavors and balanced rice. For dessert we tried the truffle. They come out frozen and ad they thaw you can start tochizzle away at it. The food is meant to be eaten with as much care as it is made with. This is the place I will take visitorsfor sushi. Such a splendid experience.
