The fish had a clean, delicious taste and a great texture. It paired perfectly with the warm, sticky, slightly sweetened rice. The portion size was generous and along with a tasty appetizer like agedashi tofu, it made for a satisfying meal. The price was reasonable and I will definitely be coming back for more.
Amami offers the best value for Omakase in the Bay Area. The sushi is absolutely delicious, with long pieces in a variety of flavors. At $43, it's unbeatable. I always come here for Omakase and they never disappoint. Whenever I'm in the mood for sushi or fresh fish, Amami is my go-to spot. The service is good, the lines are manageable, and the atmosphere is relaxed and positive. I'll definitely be returning!
3.5 Stars: Loved being able to join the waitlist in the drive down. By the time we got there and checked in, our table was ready well within the estimated time for a Saturday night dinner. Give yourself enough time to park. For the number of restaurants in this plaza, parking is a bit tight. My favorites were the Fresh Oyster and Baby O Toro. Their nigiri isn't quite seasoned where you don't need soy sauce but fresh and pretty good texture. It was my first time trying Blue Shrimp and it was a bit chewy, I prefer Amaebi more. The King Crab remix is interesting. Layers of salmon, avocado, scallop and king crab... a huge size so I split it into smaller bites.Nice service but I found that once we ordered, it felt a bit slow. It was a pretty busy night. With their $43 omakase, it seems like a good value but we didn't try this. Probably why it's popular.
Very fresh and generously thick portions. Their omakase is a great value for under $50. I especially enjoyed the seared salmon belly, which practically melted in my mouth. Their chirashi has less variety than the other sushi restaurants I frequent, it only had 4 types of fish.Wait times can get long around peak dinner times, but you can add yourself to the yelp wait-list online. Once we were seated, the food came out fairly fast.
I discovered this place because I was craving some Omakase but didn 't feel like making a reservation or paying $100+. We came right when they opened at 4:30 and did not have to wait.Overall, I think Amami is a solid sushi joint. The fish we had tasted fresh. The omakase had thick cuts of fish so there 's definitely value, although some cuts were a little clumsy so if you 're a sushi connoisseur you might take issue with that. The ankimo was flavorful, though a little tougher/crumblier than I 'm used to. We also got the Agedashi tofu, which was dry and didn 't have any grated radish, and almost no dashi. I was disappointed since this is usually one of my go to appetizers at any Japanese restaurant. The service also seemed bit disorganized. They delivered our order to a different table and also almost gave us someone else 's order. They also took a while to bring us our food. One of the plates they brought was also dirty. The ambiance was felt more fast casual than a place where $50+ per person was expected. I would return to try more food here, just with the caveats that my experience could be hit or miss.
