We're from the East Coast, and we wanted to experience a Maid-Rite as part of our Great River Road road trip. We chose this location because it's one of the more old-school locations. For the uninitiated, the original sandwich comes with mustard, onion, and pickle. We got one sandwich with no condiments and one with just mustard and pickle. I thought the mustard overshadowed the seasonings in the beef. Make sure you get a fork--a lot of the meat will spill out of the bun. And save room for pie--we had coconut cream and it was really good. The place is old but clean. The server at the counter was great--very patient with all my questions. This place does not accept credit cards, and there is no tipping.
I could eat here everyday I love this place and the prices are not to bad
This was the most disgusting food I’ve ever had. I couldn’t even eat the sandwich. It was just tasteless slop. The onion rings are something you can get frozen in a bag at the grocery stores. They destroyed the concept of strawberry pie by some type of gelatinous jelly on an overcooked crust!! I’m just shocked anyone would eat this!
I've loved Maid-Rite since I was a child, but it's hard to find the good ones now. Our first visit to the Quincy location was okay. Maidrite sandwiches were good, fries were meh and forget the strawberry pie which was nothing but gel. Our second stop while passing thru town was a complete miss. The sandwiches were soggy and tasteless after waiting a long time for a server to come over. A complete YUCK, so we'll skip this one going forward.
