Frida Kahlo Restaurante - Playa del Carmen

We were visiting Playa del Carmen and decided to try something different during our stay. We booked “the Experience” which combines a guided tour in the Frida Khalo museum followed by a private 6-course menu paired with drinks, all inspired by the life of Frida Khalo. The service was impeccable and they did an amazing job explaining the food and drinks, tying them to the life and experience of this eccentric woman. The dinner is served in a private room in the restaurant that has projectors shooting videos and images on the four walls around you... truly, the experience!

We had reservations for brunch this morning for a birthday celebration, but we were not informed that the restaurant had closed a week ago. Despite receiving an email confirmation from OpenTable just yesterday confirming our reservation for five people, we were caught off guard. This was particularly unsettling for us as international visitors.

Incredible ambiance! A must-visit in Mexico! I went here twice! The margaritas were fantastic, but the food was just okay. However, the presentation was stunning, and the dishes were exceptional. You must see the exhibition!

Genuine, refined, and exquisite cuisine: During our visit to Playa del Carmen, we discovered this restaurant in a guidebook. Being fans of Frida Kahlo, we assumed the dishes would be authentic yet elevated, and we were not disappointed. The tableside salsa preparation was delightful and unlike anything we had tried before; the sauces were scrumptious and all of the dishes were delicious. Additionally, the view from our table above the bustling street provided great entertainment in the form of people watching, including mariachis and street artists.

The food is very delicious although it is a little expensive. I liked the decoration of the restaurant.
