Zucchini and rice. The hickems was rubbed with some of the most delicious flavors. Oh it was good! The spiced mixed drink was good too a well as the moscato wine. Perfet atmosphere and decor. Some kind of net or cirtain would be good at entrance. The rain brought a couple of flys. But not a major issue. On my way out I noticed the hookah things and asked about it. So, I tried the hookah for my first time ever in the patio area...which could use some pillows on th benches. (I could make them some...I am crafty and sew. The Mangager introdued himself when I had asked about tje hookah. Very professional and friendly. I have had Mediterranean food before, but this was by far the best. Loved the tea. I missed havong something hot/spicey. But I totally recommend it. I should be blogging about this.
We went for our 31st wedding anniversary and were so glad we did. Able was outstanding as wait staff and the food delicious. Ken had lamb tagine. The spices added to the lamb dish made it taste like one if the best lamb dishes we have ever had. I enjoyed the trout dish and it was one of the best fish dishes I have had in a while and I was in Galveston about three weeks ago, just for the seafood. We enjoyed the ambience and the music. Can't wait to return.
My mother and I recently went to check out Trinity Groves, and we arrived around 3:30 or so in the afternoon. Having never been there before, we wanted to look at all of the restaurants before making a decision. We were looking at the menu for Souk posted in the window, when the waiter came out, warmly greeted us, and asked if we had any questions. We explained that we wanted to look around, and he understood, it being only the second place we'd come to, and the first actually open. He thanked us for looking, and hoped we would come back. He was the only person at any of the restaurants who even said hello when we were looking at menus at all the other places. I love Mediterranean food, and was happy with how we had been treated just for looking at the menu, so we went back for our early dinner. We could not have made a better choice. Everything was wonderful, starting with the hot tea, which is so beautifully fragrant, and served with just the right amount of sweetness. Tea is one of my great loves, so this was very important to me. For appetizers we had the salad of mixed greens with olives, and the oh so fantastic hummus. The pita bread served with it was warm, slightly chewy, but the hummus was definitely the star at that point. Then came our entrees. Lamb Shwarma served on a bed of more hummus (yay! , with a mix of pickled vegetables on the side. Very, very tasty. The other was Lamb Tagine, and it was so flavorful and tender, you didn't even need to use your knife. The richness of the lamb was well complimented by the accompanying subtle sweetness of butternut squash, apricots, and raisins, served on a bed of light and fluffy couscous. Our waiter said they could substitute rice if you didn't like couscous, but why would you do that? It's delicious! We were too stuffed at this point to even think about dessert, and had to pack up quite a bit of our entrees in carry out boxes, as we had enjoyed our appetizers a bit too much, and the portions are extremely generous. The decor and atmosphere is very simple, but charming, and I love the open kitchen with the wood burning oven. I sat facing where I could watch our food being prepared, because I like that kind of thing. Our waiter was also infinitely patient with us, and answered our many, many food questions, talked with us about different things, and even took a picture with my phone for us, so we could be in the shot along with all of the food on our table. We will definitely be going back, and soon. My mom and I have already talked about how fun it would be to get some friends together and go and sit on the patio with a hookah (yep, they have those, and lots of flavors, too , with some of that delicious hot tea and a plate of hummus. They do also serve alcohol, but I'm not much of a drinker, so I can't really comment on that. Thank you, Souk, for a wonderful meal, and a delightful experience. It is rare these days to find a place that is genuinely warm and inviting, where a customer is made to feel like they are welcome and important, and not simply another body walking through the door.
I think Souk is very comfortable inside and out, made so by quality furnishings, warm decor, and friendly staff. My family and I have nothing but praise for the food. We recommend the large, communal appetizer tray (could be a light meal), the salads and goat cheese cigars, the skewered steak, and the lamb tagine. Our desserts were both fabulous and exotic: chocolate mousse with a Moroccan coffee boost and quite possibly the best (not overly sweet) baklava in our experience. We will be back!
This place is the best! You can not find a more attentive, helpful and welcoming staff anywhere! We have been there several times and it has always been fantastic. I love how the staff engage you and do everything they can to have you enjoy your visit. If you have not tried them yet you need to, you won't regret it!
