Took a couple extra days after a business trip to explore around the hotel and the city of Dallas. We found this place on Google maps, I didn't even look at the reviews, it just felt authentic. Tollbert's did not disappoint. My wife said the chili was the best she's ever had, restaurant or homemade. We also ordered the jalapeno corn bread muffins and they were an absolute delight. There seems to be live music every night and the band that night was really good. Great atmosphere, out of this world service and overall a real gem of a place!! Definitely plan to bring a group with me next time we are in the area for work.
Went to see Dead Thing on a Sunday afternoon. What a beautiful old town in Texas. Tolberts have been around a long time featuring great food and awesome concerts. We did have the Paris Catfish, which was nicely fried and delicious. The portion is 2 nice size pieces of catfish with hushpuppies and 2 sides. If you're going to see a band, call asap and reserve a table, and the tables go quickly that are close to the stage. I did visit the ladies' room, which was a nice size and very clean. Parking is across the building but is open to all the downtown activities.
Awesome first time at Tolberts! Food was excellent and the vibe was great. We started with fried pickles that were perfectly crispy. For entrees we had a Terlingua burger (chili cheese burger) that was perfectly cooked and served with crispy fried and 3 large hand breaded onion rings. Nothing frozen out of a bag here! We also had chicken fried steak strip that were so tender you could cut them with a fork. That was also served with fries and gravy. Finally a bowl of the famous Tolbert’s chili. Excellent! Drinks and cocktails were very good and reasonably priced. What really impressed me was the SERVICE! Even though the place was completely packed for an afternoon concert the staff was calm and super efficient. Everyone was happy and gracious. Special kudos to our server, Caroline. I couldn’t even count how many tables she was serving but never got flustered and our order was exactly correct as we ordered it and she never lost her smile. Definitely will be going back to try more great food.
Please, please turn down the speakers! The music is so loud it literally hurts my ears. Other than that I like this place, but reading other reviews this seems to be an ongoing issue they don’t correct. Update: changing rating since it seems management is addressing the issue
