Fattie's Diner - Damascus

We found this place in a little town off the Virginia Creeper...i'm a foodie, so good eatin' is nothing i'm new to, and this place is great...my family got separate dishes and all were fantastic...if you are visiting the area, this place is worth the stop!

So you just tripped in or pedaled in to Damascus, hungry, thirsty and needing a cool place to enjoy a meal. Easy choice is the friendly people, tasty food and cold drinks, yes beer, at the Whistle Pig Bistro. Locals know, hikers, and Virginia Creeper bikers too that the Whistle Pig is a must stop if you are in or even close to Damascus.

My mom lives in Damascus and we visit once or twice a month. I'd say we've eaten there 15 20 times in the past couple years. We LOVE the Whistlepig... best place to eat in Damascus. Actually, one of the best places to eat ANYWHERE. I've NEVER gotten food that I didn't like at the Whistlepig. Everything is fresh and they always have a good special. I've tried something different almost every time, and everytime I've not been disappointed. It's not fancy. But it's good. The owners work hard Cindy waits tables and Roger cooks. Friendly atmosphere.

After initially planning to stay for just one day in Damascus, we ended up here for four because we loved it so much. It’s that good. You can enjoy a fantastic meal, a cold beer, and have a great time for under $10. Instead of the typical burger and fries, you'll be served a seasoned (or even blackened) burger with fries topped with seasoning, garlic, and dill—truly some of the best fries I've ever had. They also offer fantastic vegetarian options, thanks to one of the co-owners being a vegetarian. Choices like soy dogs, veggie reubens, fried green tomato sandwiches, and the perfect summer dish, gazpacho, are just a few of the offerings for non-meat eaters. The atmosphere is fun and friendly, with a menu that is out of this world. You’ll always receive a warm smile from the staff and owners, who are more than happy to share their philosophy on great food.

I completely agree with Thomas H. This is the best dining spot in Damascus! The food is high-quality, wholesome, and reasonably priced. The team managing the kitchen is the same crew that made Wild Flour in Abingdon a favorite. They are wonderful people who are more than happy to serve anyone looking for great food. Whether you're a vegetarian or not, this place is a must-visit. The veggie burgers are the best I've tasted in SWVA, and the black-eyed pea burger is absolutely delicious. Their beef burgers are just as remarkable. I can't wait to explore the rest of their menu!
