I 've tried them a couple times now just under $5 for a sandwich is pretty good, but I wish it had more veggies. It 's mostly sweet fried tofu, with a little carrot/daikon, cilantro, and a few big slices of jalapeno (which try as might, I cannot take a bite out of without burning my lips off you can ask them to hold the peppers but there 's nothingto balance all the sweetness without it! . My husband likes the tuna salad hoagie it 's double the size for $7 (unfortunately they don 't upsize the tofu one, I 've asked . The couple times he 's had it it 's been pretty soggy, tho. We 'refeeling so so about the hoagies, but will keep going back because of the convenience/price. The market itself is very sweet. Loads of interesting organic, gourmet, and pan asian grocery items, including dark chocolate candy bars, qualitysoba noodles, vegan meat substitutes, and baking ingredients. I haven 't seen any organic produce here. Prices can be steep but it 's nice to have this type of stuff in the 'hood. The outdoor seating area is pretty adorable, too.
Fu-Wah has been a personal favorite of mine for the past 7+ years. I almost always get the tofu banh mi. I 'm Vietnamese-American so I like to think I have a decent idea of what good authentic banh mi should taste like and this spot is it. The braised tofu is seriously the best and they sell it separately in pints as well, so you can bring it home to eat with whatever you 'd like. They also have a good selection of other Asian food products here, like sauces and snacks, without having to go all the way to South Philly, so it 's nice when you just need one or two specific things. A bit pricier than going to Washington Ave but you pay for the convenience and it 's worth supporting a local mom and pop, in myopinion. The location is convenient via public transit and I also almost never have issues finding parking to pick up orders I call in over the phone in advance. They 're quick too! The store is clean, small but never overly crowded, andthe in-store ATM has never given me any issues (they 're cash only! . The quality hasn 't gone down once since I first discovered Fu-Wah almost a decade ago. I try to take friends or family from out of town here when I can; it 's always asolid choice!
Neighborhood one-stop-shop for all your random pantry essentials and last minute ingredients? such as a lemon! Which I scurried over to fu-wah for the other night mid-potluck prep!!
