If you're looking for a good pub meal then you won't be disappointed by The Royal.
Cheap beers, and sticky tablesDefinitely a Uni bar, but one with charm.
Living only a few minutes away and having driven past this place for years, we thought it was time to finally give it a try for a low key family pub dinner. Unfortunately not a great result! The $10 pub special rump steak was the pick of the meals and the only one I would order again. The adult chicken Parma and the kids version were deep fried too long, leaving them dry and crusty while the kids cheeseburger was so bad our son didn't touch it - dry and over toasted bun, really over cooked meat patty that would have bounced if we dropped it and a small piece of cheese. While a lot of staff were around, none looked too interested to do too much to help beyond their job description. Go instead to some of the pubs in Erskineville (e.g. the Erko, Rose) or Mary's in Newtown (best burgers around).
I spend at least 8 months of the year here. The food is great and reasonably priced. The rooms are clean and the prices are fair. I will definitely be back next year.
