It was okay, but a bit too fatty and the texture was mushy. The slaw didn't add the crunch I was expecting and the jalapeno flavor was not noticeable. The side soup was squash, which was spicy and tasty. My husband had the burger, which he said was good but not amazing. He preferred Cheese Curds in Dartmouth. He also enjoyed the bell pepper soup. Overall, it was a decent spot for lunch, but we probably won't be returning.
I've been to this lunch spot several times and each time I had a great experience! Great service and great food each and everytime. Especially love the Mac and Cheese bowls, absolutely delicious!
Was a bit of a wait for our food, and the place is very small - not a lot of seats and quite crammed in. I had the hog rockers sandwich - pork belly sandwich with apple japaleno slaw; it was okay but a bit too fatty and texturally was mushy - I think the slaw was supposed to add crunch but it didn't and the jalapeno was not noticeable. The accompanying side soup was squash and it was spicy and good. My husband had the burger which he described as good but not amazing (he would still rather drive to Dartmouth for Cheese Curds.) He had the bell pepper soup which was also good. So all in all, a decent place for lunch but probably not worth a return trip.
Don't let the location deter you from heading over the bridge if you live in Halifax. And if you live in Dartmouth - lucky you! This new Dartmouth eatery is a refreshing change with a varied menu and delicious offerings. I had read numerous reviews raving about the food so just had to try it out myself. I ordered the Fluffer Nutter sandwich - peanut butter, marshmallow and Nutella dipped in egg and grilled. It was very good and not overwhelmingly sweet, as I was afraid it might be. There is a selection of sides that come with any sandwiches. I just had to taste the spinach and feta risotto. OMG - I would drive over just to get the risotto! It was amazing! Staff Jennifer was wonderful to chat with, pointing out her favorite pastry amongst tempting croissants, cinnamon buns and huge scones. I took a ham and cheese croissant home with me. No thin slice of cooked ham in this baby, just a nice chunk of pork shoulder and cheese in a large, perfect croissant. Well worth the cost of $5.00 Eats Urban Lunch Counter requires multiple visits to try out all the amazing food - bet you won't be able to go just once!
I didn't know what to expect, to be honest. I'm not a big fan of cider, so I decided to try the Ginx because I enjoy gin. And let me tell you, it was absolutely delicious.
