I asked for dipping sauce and the waiter seemed flabbergasted. I suggested maybe just some soy sauce and vinegar and he brought just soy sauce. The tofu came without rice, so I had to order rice and wait. Tofu was fine but unremarkable. Not a bad meal, but nothing close to my quasi-spiritual first experience. Original review: I ordered the tan tan noodles and the sliced fish and pickled vegetables soup, and both were amazingly delicious. Just about the best Chinese food I’ve ever eaten, and I’m from San Francisco.
Amazing delicious food. Ordered 4 dishes for a game night with friends. There are a decent amount of combinations and dishes to pick. We ended ordering the orange chicken, sliced beef with broccoli, stir-fried rice with seafood and cabbage in sweet and sour. Everything got ready within 20 minutes and the food was delightful. I am definitely coming back to eat here.
The staff were extremely nice and food came very quickly. They gave us free desserts after our meal. Highly recommend.
This restaurant is legitimately an all time culinary experience. Grew up in Davis, live in Sacramento now and I STILL come back for Chengdu Style... Mapo Tofu, Crispy Chicken with Ball pepper, shredded pork and green peppy.... SO GOOD!! Love you guys, Chengdu!!
Authentic, flavorful, delicious! This restaurant is a must go. We ate at the restaurant and enjoyed the Boiled Sliced Fish in Hot Sauce, Mapo Tofu and Crispy Pork Chop with Mexican Chili. The fish was served in a thick flavorful sauce, I could taste the ginger. It had a smooth spicy undertone and had fresh sliced Napa cabbage and bean sprouts below the fish. The tofu was just like all the other great Mapo Tofu's I've had elsewhere, comforting and spicy. The pork was similar to a dry rub, not wet or oily. Definitely covered in one of the best spice rubs I've ever had. Deep flavor and served with Chinese red peppers and jalapeno peppers. None of the dishes were oily. Each had its own distinct flavor and I couldn't tell which one had the Sichuan pepper, it could have been all, but I had this wonderful mild numbing in my tongue from it. Nothing was overly spicy, I would say more on the mild side for someone who likes to eat spicy food. My young son had no trouble eating and enjoying everything too. The staff were nice and we were some of the few customers to eat in the restaurant. Their to-go orders were constant during the dinner hours we were there. If you don't like spicy, don't go here because the wonderful flavors incorporate the spice and if that is removed, then what's the point. Chengdu means spicy!
