After trying all of the sushi restaurants around Davis, I still think Mikuni has the best quality of fish for the price. The only other competitor is Zen Toro, whose rolls I like better because they are more creative, in my opinion. Despite the pretty Americanized atmosphere of Mikuni, the taste of the entrees is unbeatable. Typically I'll just order the nigiri and I've never once been disappointed. <br/ <br/ The service here is great, from my experiences. The chefs remember you when you come in to sit at the bar and I've never had rude service from them. I was being served by one of the managers for a few times and he'd even give me samples of things not on the menu that turned out to be really tasty. The portions of the salads are huge too, particularly the wakame (seaweed) salad. <br/ <br/ The happy hour is a great deal as well. I can get my beloved wakame salad for $3, and there are several rolls that are reduced to $5 a piece. A different type of nigiri is also on sale each night. Similarly, the lunch menu is an amazing deal. My favorite is the 7 piece assorted nigiri for around $11; like I said, the quality of the fish in this dish is superior to the other restaurants I've eaten at.<br/ <br/ Overall, 10/10 for quality and service, with the only drawbacks being somewhat high costs and roll choices that don't really suit my fancy. A otherwise.
