The same eclectic music, clunky service and great food. This cafe breaks the mould in that its own identity, not following the other Cafes trying only to attract the fast non returning tourist buck. Locals and visitors are all given the same interest and leave feeling they've all imbued a little country hospitality.
You don't to a cafe just for the decor or to be seen. However you go to Red Nonnas for the food served with homespun passion and care. The cafe housed in a slightly faded Victorian cottage is the sought of place where you can enjoy a meal, chat and listen to cool jazz and feel welcome. The service is at best relaxed and this all adds that certain experience that you only seem to get in own we operated establishments in country towns. Red Nonnas keep on doing what you do.
You should never judge a book by its cover, and this has never been more true than for this quirky, cosy little cafe. Utterly unassuming from the outside, inside is utterly delightful; funky jazz creates a relaxed atmosphere, as does the lovely hospitable owner/manager. Simple unfussy Italian inspired brekkie items are served promptly to either communal or individual tables, all which are adorned with retro condiment canisters. Artwork (canvases and sketch drawings) adorn the walls of this interesting and unpretentious cafe. My breakfast consisted of poached eggs, a rosti, candied pancetta and parmesan shavings. I was delighted that the rosti was fructose friendly and that the chef was very accommodating with modifying my meal requirements. It was wonderful to have amazing flavours and a different slant on poached egg breakfast. I wish I had not judged Red Nonna, as it was one of the nicest meals I had in Daylesford.
Great food and fantastic service, I recommend the breakfast which is superb ! Fair priced and a good ambience
Called in for breakfast one morning, ordered the basic scrambled eggs and bacon with coffee, wasn't to bad, the eggs were a bit dry, didn't like the coffee though, tasted a bit bitter.
