Top BBQ Restaurant - Dee Why

We decided to try Top BBQ restaurant due to all the good reviews on TA. Unfortunately we didn't experience the same . What was most upsetting was the TV was blaring & the staff basically fixed to the screen to watch The Voice. We had to ask for it to be turned down as it was really unsettling trying to dine with TV on. If we wanted to watch TV we would have stayed home ! The dishes were tasty but nothing special. We actually couldn't wait to leave. Staff were friendly but really didn't give care about good service. My hubby had to walk across the road to the pub to get some ice for my drink as the restaurant didn't have any.

I see the reviewers are divided on the quality of this food. First of all, we ate in so I can't comment on any delivery problems. Secondly, although we live locally there is plenty of parking near this restaurant if you turn off Pittwater Road onto Delmar or use the Stony Reserve parking lot which is only a block away. Because there is so much construction going on in Dee Why parking can be a real problem but not here.It seemed that the owner waited on us which was probably a matter of luck. He told the cook we liked spicy food and we weren't disappointed. I chose the Szechuan prawns and my lady the Mongolian lamb partly because they had been complained about by other reviewers but we didn't find anything to complain about, both were excellent. The complimentary prawn crackers were crisp and tasty where in some restaurants they get a bit soggy from the humid weather and it was humid. In summary we were pleasantly surprised and we will go back to try other dishes.

I read so many conflicting reviews about this restaurant, which eventually my curiosity fired up and wanted to ascertain the truth personally. Our experience started with a warm welcome and continued with fast and attentive service, and excellent food. The prawn crackers as we already read about them were exquisite.The gentleman who was waiting on us- actually I think that he was the owner- warned us, that the dishes we ordered are very spicy. We said that is one of the reasons why we ordered them since we like it extra hot. He assured us, he’ll arrange it with the kitchen, and that is how we’ll get them. He kept his word. My partner’s Szechuan prawns came hot fragrant and spicy, as it is written in the books. My Mongolian lamb, which I missed for a while, came sizzling on a hot cast iron plate. Even the look of it was mouth-watering. The seasoning was perfect, and the soft meat fell apart and melted in my mouth like butter. It was just simply excellent. The special fried rice was good, but nothing extraordinary. Even the obligatory Fortune cookies were a pleasant surprise. Their pastries actually were good and tasty; that didn’t happen too often in my experiences.Now I’m really confused. Some of the reviewers gave only one, the other ones the five to this restaurant. Maybe it was just because of different tastes "In matters of taste, there can be no disputes," or some people just went on an unlucky day. Anyway, I gave them the high five and promised to go back soon.

Place a phone order last night and was given a 1 hour window and we had to ring after 75 mins. Food arrived at the 90min Mark. Yes,it was worth the wait. Very good,yum...and good value. Will order earlier next time.

The food here is better than most would expect of Chinese. The food is tasty and fresh and take the word of the staff for recommendations. I recommend the boneless duck in pepper or the szechuan prawns, or just get both... It's now on my regular visit list.
