Nor is it only furnished with fabulous furniture (how do you feel sitting in that Martha Washington chair or reclining your tired body on the Camel-back sofa while a real fire roars in the fireplace), but it also offers modern amenities (WiFi, etc, ect) without altering the far away from hectic modernity feeling.
A charming, well-run inn with handsome antique and reproduction furniture on a tree-lined street of exquisite historic houses. We stayed two weekday nights in a standard room with 2 double beds on the first floor of the Carriage House. That was lucky because the elevator was out of service for the duration of our stay and we had some heavy luggage. Our room was spacious and comfortable with pale-colored wallpaper and drapery. Because it faced the parking lot, we had to keep the shades drawn but we didn't spend a lot of time there, so it didn't matter. The bathrooms are quite modern. We could not figure out how to turn on the high-tech Jacuzzi brand shower, even after a phone call to the front desk for instructions. So they sent an employee to our room to show us. She showed up within a very few minutes and we had a good laugh about it. They serve afternoon tea and house-made cookies from 2 to 5 pm in the sitting room. We ate too many of them. We had 2 breakfasts and one dinner in their dining room, Champney's. Both were good, traditional meals. Service was friendly and competent each time. It appears they have taken out tables to create social distancing. A tent also was set up on the terrace for additional dinner seating outdoors and there are a few tables on the front porch. We enjoyed our stay. Given all the graduations and weddings taking place in late May, we felt fortunate that we were able to get a room.
We chose Mushroom Risotto, Chicken Pot Pie and Scalops with Shrimp. The mushroom risotto just needed to be mushroom, asparaugs, onions and celery with plenty of white wine and lots of Parmigiano Reggiano. The pickeld carrots, onions, celery completely spoiled the taste. The chicken Pot Pie was creamy and lacking chicken and there were 2 scallops and 4 shrimmps. So overall, the cost was way too much for what it was very disapoinnting. Wouldn't go back or recommend sadly.
The Deerfield Inn is an historic inn, with wallpapered walls and wood floors in the hallways that creak when you walk. But it has all the modern amenities. The temperature control is excellent responding well to AC and heat demands very quickly (I was there during a week when both were needed! . The bathrooms are all updated. All the employees are very kind and helpful. While there is not a refrigerator in the rooms, there is a small one that can be shared among the guests. A Keurig machine is available for making coffee, tea or hot chocolate any time 24/7. And the K cups are well stocked. The food is outstanding and they have a good selection of wines and cocktails. And they offer complimentary tea and cookies every day from 2:30 5:00. It is truly a charming place.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Deerfield Inn, a beautifully preserved inn in the center of historic Deerfield. Check-in was smooth--I'd heard most of what the receptionist had outlined for the guests checking in before me, so it didn't take long to get me on the way to the room. Our room was lovely--traditionally decorated, large, very comfortable, with a nice bath. We hoped to dine outside but by that time of evening (7:30 the mosquitos were out and the restaurant was happy to accommodate a last-minute switch to inside. Breakfast was ample and well prepared. The central location of the inn allows for guests to ramble the village, which is charming and well-marked. It was a great visit in every respect.
