We had seats at the Il Palio restaurant. Food was subpar but the service was excellent. It has AC, bathrooms and betting booths for your comfort and enjoyment. There's tv's everywhere so you can watch no matter where you're sitting. Best seats are next to the window. The restaurant menu is very limited. Best if you eat before you come.
The long lines caused us to miss out on two of the races, which we've never experienced in all the years we've been coming here. In our reserved seating area, we had to constantly fend off uninvited guests trying to take our seats. There needs to be better oversight and significantly improved security measures in place. It's such a shame because this used to be a classy venue.
Wow, what an enjoyable experience! It was so elegant and reminded me of the scene in Pretty Woman where the ladies are dressed up in extravagant and quirky hats at the polo track. From the delicious food to the simplicity of placing bets, everything was effortless and incredibly fun. I can't wait to go back!
I was really disappointed with my experience at the track yesterday. I had reserved a table for four of us, and while the service from the waitress and the food were fine, the betting experience was a nightmare! I've been going to Del Mar since 1978 and have never encountered such long and slow lines to place a bet. In all my years, I had only been turned away at the window once, but yesterday it happened twice, and I barely managed to place my bets on two other occasions. I wasn’t alone; everyone I spoke to in line shared similar frustrations. It’s clear they are shifting towards machine betting—there were seven machines in one area with only four open windows. I even went up a level and encountered the same long lines. Del Mar, it’s time to sort things out and bring back the enjoyment to the experience. We were seated at East Grill stretch run, table 17. I come almost every year to celebrate my birthday here.
