The days of Anti pasti the punk band of derby who use to hang out on old derby Market place along with all the other people who use to call and eat or just drink the really good coffee and tea that use to be served here . I became homeless at around 20 yrs of age and every Thursday for reasons I'm still not sure of I use to always call into the Acropolis for either breakfast or a really hearty afternoon meal . It is such a shame to hear that the place has closed down. Another sad blow to derby I am sad to say . I can honestly say that the my memories of the place and the staff who worked there is one of gratefulness. The place literally kept me alive at a very dark period of my life . The food was brilliant and plentiful. Not sure if anyone who owned the place back then or who worked there back in the late 70s will read this but the Acropolis cafe saved my life . Sounds a bit odd I know but trust me to be able to have a lovely hot meal at affordable prices and a hot drink saved my life . Thank you all at Acropolis. That café has always always and will always hold a special place in my Heart . Such a loss . Thank you Barry . Xx
This is situated in the market place in Derby. We sat outside for a morning coffee and relaxed, taking in the view. It's the first time we'd visited. The had a menu full of reasonably priced food which several people were enjoying whilst we were there.
Ok breakfast but others preferred based on our experiences over our weekend break. Other reviews suggest we might just have visited on an unrepresentative day.
The Acropolis is one of those places that I just keep going back to. Whether it 's a hearty Full English , a propper cottage pie or just coffee cake it 's always great. Whenever someone says let go for Breckie at the Acropolis, it 's always meet with smiles an increase in speed, so forget the big boys, stick local buy British, your tummy will thank you for it :D
On a day out in Derby we got take away tea and hot chocolate so we could eat our own packed lunch in the square opposite the cafe. Really friendly and helpful staff who made our orders exactly as we asked. Good prices too. Lots of choice of meals, which looked interesting, I will come back to eat here another time, lots of choice for vegetarians.
