Very friendly, local, welcoming, great service, great bagels!
I've been here a few times over the last few years. The bagels are decent for what's out here. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. I would avoid the hidden veggie cream cheese though nothing hidden about 2 inch slices of onion. However, the main issue I have is the service. It used to be okay. A solid 3. Again, nothing to rave about but I was at least acknowledged when I walked in. Recently however, is a different story and I will no longer be going back. I'm not sure if it's new management (the lady who was normally there and the guy on the stove are no longer there), but recently I feel entirely unwelcome. I've had them make eye contact with me when I walk in and completely ignore me multiple times. To the point I've had to say hi 3 to 4 times to get them to acknowledge me and take my order. I've had them hold onto my card and have a 5 minute conversation with the guy behind me while I'm just trying to pay and leave. And I've had them try to completely skip over me to the next guy in line to take his order and HE had to redirect them to me because I was ahead of him. Bottom line: if you're not a blue collar guy in work boots, try ANYWHERE else. They will make you feel entirely unwelcome, no matter how polite you are, and it's just not worth it.
I really wanted to love this place and the staff for what it is worth were super friendly. The menu had a couple of house specials that I figured would be something they know well and do well. For $37 I ordered 2 Reuben Sandwiches and a Lox (Salmon Belly cured in salt brine) bagel. The first oddity was the lack of prices on what you were ordering. Maybe there were prices somewhere I didn 't notice? I am not sure. Both of the Reuben sandwiches had 2 thin slices of meat and lots of sauerkraut, enough that it should have been called a sauerkraut melt and not a Reuben. Unfortunately, it get 's worse from here. While sauerkraut can have an extended shelf life, it needs to be stored properly. The sauerkraut in this situation was in fact a situation in that it was bad. Vomit bad? no. Turn your belly and butt into a broken hydrant spraying at will YES. Adding insult to injury I was asked what is Lox ? by the kind, young but sniffling, ungloved girl preparing my food (again super kind people so this is nothing against them personally). Against my better judgement, I mustered up an answer salmon . I got it on an Asiago bagel (which looked excellent btw) with cream cheese, red onion, and capers. I should have known at this point I was going to be in for an intestinal roller coaster ride. Upon the first bite, I knew the salmon was a little off. After the second chomp, I knew it wasn 't right. I 've had lox before and it was amazing. This was more like smoked salmon that was left out for a little too long. While I am sure this place is amazing for a plain and simple breakfast sandwich or wrap with bacon, egg, and cheese. I have to say that I will need to pass on eating here if I am getting anything but the basics and if I 'm spending close to $40 for a few small sandwiches, I really expect them to be spot on not making me leave a trail of spots. Again the staff were super nice and kind but the food needs to match the service. Thanks so much and seriously, no hard feelings, my digestive system will be fine by tomorrow.
Ordered 1/2 dozen bagels they were semi frozen. WTH? If I wanted frozen bagels I would have bought lenders . Brooklyn Bagels they are not!!!
