The asso di coppe on the way to perugia after a recommendation stopped. you can reach the restaurant/café from the autobahn or from the city of deruta, which has a large parking lot. had the best chocolate donuts we ever had, and at a good price. too busty for trucker and coaches.
Like others we came here after a long morning of ceramic shopping in the city of deruta. it came very recommended by elizabeth minchilli who writes a food blog, otherwise I'm not so sure we were here. we even tried the fate by having meeresfruit 3 different possibilities. in a truck stop! we had raw fish, then fish with pasta and finally roasted seafood. all well prepared. the half of the mozen had just come out of the autobahn and the rest seemed to be native. I deserved the stop.
We tried this restaurant after a long morning china shopping in Deruta and having read the reviews on Trip Advisor. It's true, it is a lorry driver's café and also the Carabinieri eat there too but the food is delicious. I had large spaghetti with...truffles and my mother had delicious lasagne with no tomato sauce, also with truffles and mushrooms. The antipasti were enormous, we mistakenly ordered two plates of parma ham and crostini between 3 of us and could barely finish it. Beware however as it is shut for ferr'agosto for 2 weeks.
If you are shopping like mad for ceramics in Deruta and the clock strikes 1:00pm all the stores close. Time for lunch. We asked our shopkeeper where we should eat, and he quickly recommended Asso id Coppe...”All the truck drivers eat there. You can’t go...wrong.” So midway between Sud and Nord exits for Deruta on the E45 is a gas station [access from the northbound lanes] and behind it sits and unassuming hotel and restaurant. It was Sunday afternoon and the place was packed with groups, but they found us a table for two. The crowd was authentic...Italian families out for Sunday lunch. The food flowed from the kitchen in quantifies we could not believe. We ordered roast chicken and received a whole chicken that was delicious. Add a salad and side order of spinach, a liter of mineral water the total came to 24 euros. And we took home enough chicken and spinach for another meal.
