This temple is a beautiful place to find inner peace and offers a wonderful view for photography enthusiasts. The best time to visit is in the morning or during the Ambabachi mala festival to experience the beauty of the temple.
The Kamakhya Temple is a sacred temple dedicated to the mother goddess Kamakhya, located on the Nilachal Hill in the western part of Guwahati city in Assam, India. It is one of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Pithas and is the main temple in a complex of individual temples representing the ten Mahavidyas of Saktism. The temple is a popular tourist attraction in Guwahati and is located near the Brahmaputra river. Visitors should be prepared for long wait times, with queues lasting an average of 4-5 hours. It is recommended to visit the temple early in the morning to avoid the crowds. Jai mata di.
Excellent temple, well managed. Can be more cleaner. Plan ahead, general darshan typically is very difficult, one will have to wait several hours before darshan. The Special/VIP darshan costs 500 per person. One should get to the temple gates by 5 to 515am, this helps in getting the first set of entry tickets. The ticket counter opens at 6am and the darshan starts at 8am. They make the people who have tickets into a AC room for about couple of hours from the time you get the tickets. Then batch by batch you are allowed inside another holding area, and then subsequently for darshan. We followed the above and got good darshan. From 8am, it took us about 1hr to get darshan. There another batch that starts around 1pm ticket sales and darshan from 230pm. You also get to see the Dasha Maha Vidhya temples around the Kamakhya temple. Inside the main temple you can see Kamalambigai and Matangi. Outside the main building just near the ticket counter you find Sheetaladevi. On the right side of Sheetaladevi there is an exit taking you to another temple for Dhumavati and below that is Balabhairavi. Once you come out of the Kamakhya Mandir there is a set of temples as you climb down for Taradevi, Mahakaali and Chinnamastha. Once you get to the road, further above by road, in about a kilometre there is Bagalamukhi and further up the mountain road in about another 2kms there is Buvaneshwari temple.
