Had to celebrate my birthday in isolation, but luckily I could still enjoy a Laurent cake! We ordered a lemon glaze cake and it was just delicious! Great flavours and reasonable price
A lovely bakery in Westfield Doncaster<br/ <br/ The modern, open space creates a lovely aesthetic. As soon as you walk in you see a huge cabinet full of cakes, sandwiches, pastries more! There is also a lovely display of freshly baked bread along the wall. There are also many places to sit both inside outside the bakery.<br/ <br/ I got to try a wide variety of their food including a delicious meat pie which had super flakey pastry delicious filling. Their cakes are also amazing! I’m not 100% sure what the flavour was, but it was a special for the Melbourne Cup all elements of it were amazing from the chocolate mousse layer to coconut layer.<br/ <br/ The service are very attentive friendly!
Laurent invited us to their launch event of the newly reinvigorated Westfield Doncaster store. This was a celebration of the spring carnival and those with talent got to work with chocolatiers in creating edible rose creations. We sampled some savoury canapé sized versions of what is sold behind the counter including their delightful ham baguette, classic salmon dill and capers, the most incredible chicken or beef pies and an assortment of quiche. The pastry was incredibly short and morish, while the chicken pie filling was probably the best we’ve seen on sale. Impressive savoury from a place I generally would go to for their delicious cakes and sweet treats. We left with a sweet treat to take home complete with a chocolate Melbourne cup and delightfully complex dessert that reminded me a little of a bounty bar. <br/ <br/ Previous Review<br/ I swear this place must have strategically placed itself near the entrance to David Jones purely to capture the shopping weary husbands of the world. It certainly worked for me on the weekend. A good distraction to fill in time so I’d be an understatement as their coffee is ok. Today I ordered a pear and almond tart which makes a change from the lemon tart (tarte au citron) that I normally order. Service was a little slow as they were crazy Saturday morning busy.
Laurent Cafe in Westfield Doncaster has been around for a very long time, at least for more than 15 years and a staple cafe within the shopping centre complex. It is a cafe that you know wont disappoint in terms of food especially cakes and sandwiches) quality. Price has risen in the past 12 months and they were closed for quite a significant couple of months in earlier half of 2019 for refurbishments.<br/ <br/ LOCATION<br/ <br/ Laurent Cafe is situated on upper level first floor) of Westfield Doncaster, outside David Jones and opposite to Koko Black.<br/ There is indoor cafe seating or outdoor seating within the shopping centre. As part of the refurbishments, their outdoor seating has extended past the next 2 shop fronts with couch seating. I much prefer to sit outside as there is more space and natural lighting.<br/ <br/ As you walk inside the cafe, on the right hand side there is a counter with a sink and tray of glasses which you can self-serve water. At the back of the cafe, there is a counter with latest newspapers for customers to read.<br/ <br/ SERVICE<br/ <br/ Service can be slow at times especially on weekends, as its always seems to be so busy. If only they had more staff on hand it would be better at times. On other times I had visited service was quick and efficient, so I guess it really all depends. <br/ <br/ MENU/PRICE<br/ <br/ They have a large selection of different types of food and you can easily view in their counter display. Their menu is not that easy to read, it is an A4 clear perspex holder menu at the counter near the register, they should really have menu's available at the tables as well for convenience.<br/ <br/ On this occasion I ordered for brunch: Large Chicken Foccacia Sandwich, $13.75<br/ <br/ VERDICT<br/ <br/ Delicous, once of my favourites here at Laurent Cafe. I always ask for it to be toasted a little bit longer so that the chicken in the middle gets a bit warmer. The ingredients inside are fresh and tasty. Love how the chicken peices are cut up very small so its easy to eat and mixed well with the light creamy mayo and mustard. The avocado and walnut gives it added flavour and texture!
