For me it was at Longueville Manor in Jersey at the end of the last millennium, and a few days ago at the Hirschen Gasthof after a long journey from Kestelyi on the shores of Lake Balaton. We called on the way to announce that we would come too late and a lovely platter awaited us in the cozy tube in the society of Gämsen, Murmeltiere and Ptarmigantrophien. But the best was still to come: our first frustration ever (simple), absolutely divine food thanks to Niko, the Hungarian cook, and wonderful, friendly and smiling service made our two stay far too short for our pleasure. We drove the next day near Oberle, but the weather was not responsible for the staff, so I will not comment on it, for worth mentioning that we are coming for more (snow)! Definitely an absolute Austrian must!!! Please don't change anything! GRUSSI!
Fantastic experience, including food, service and stylish, traditional interiors. We visited deer many times and will be much more again.
Located inside the hotel Hirschen , this restaurant is a must when staying in the area. Local, seasonal, fresh, high-quality food is turned into beautifully tasting dishes. Mostly regional recipes and specialities without any unnecessary shou-shou. The restaurant houses a well-known wine cellar, offering corresponding drinks for each dish/course and each customer 's gusto. Special 5-course menus are available...we loved it! For dinner a reservation is recommended, due to the great popularity of the place. Verdict: Do not miss the opportunity.
After a delightful visit to Bavaria, Germany and Vienna, Austria, we decided to stop off in Schwarzenberg, Austria, at the Gasthof Hirschen for lunch on our way back home to Freiburg, Germany. We couldn 't have been more delighted with our choice when we got there at 1pm. It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday and we had a table reserved in the garden. After we arrived, it quickly filled up with lots of very elegant guests and, from the greetings many received, they were long-time regulars. The menu offered a number of very tasty starters and main courses, as well as two special dishes of the day. After our starters of steak tartare and trout tartare which were delicious and beautifully presented, my husband opted for the veal special and I chose one of two fish dishes from the main menu with asparagus. Unfortunately, I was brought the wrong fish dish, most probably due to the fact that we were having an interesting conversation with the waitress about living abroad who must have mixed up the dishes. My husband got on with his meal and, shortly after, my fish arrived, and was certainly worth waiting for. Apart from the faux pas with the fish, service was efficient and friendly. We finished our meal with a selection of Austrian cheeses and espressi, and, all in all, enjoyed a delicious dining experience in a wonderful little Austrian village in the 'Bregenzerwald '.
We were lucky enough to have travelled through Europe during the asparagus season and as such we have had fresh spargel/asperge all the way for 10 days or so. This was one of our highlights here too. Anyway, the entire experience in this restaurant was wonderful starting with their excellent red wine (Gschpano) and their enduring patience with our two young children. The food tends to be upmarket and so it is with certain dishes, such as as the fish file with barley risotto or the mouthwatering pasta with white asparagus ragu and meadow herbs. We tried the tomato essence (soup) with dumplings but although it was good, it was not very much to our taste pls read approach. The Kaesspatzle was also very tasty and we enjoyed it. The atmosphere was what we imagined it would be in a village restaurant up in the mountains. All in all, we would love to return. PS Breakfast is an experience in itself: how about starting your day with lit candles, white roses and a glasss of prosecco awaiting you on the table ?
