I previously lived in Japan for 14 years, and I must say that Wakagi in Dumaguete is not the best choice for Japanese cuisine. It is not a separate restaurant, but rather a part of the main menu. Unfortunately, many items listed on the menu are not actually available. When we tried to order some Edamame, it was not available. We settled on some temaki, but the rice was hot and soggy, and the filling was minimal. The salad we received, which we didn't even order, was mostly lettuce with a few slices of carrot and unripe tomatoes. The wait staff seemed to be more focused on chatting than serving customers. My wife ordered the Itame, which she said was good but had fatty pork, making it less healthy. I had the Nabeyashi Udon, but the noodles were overcooked and the tempura was drowned in sauce. Overall, if you are looking for authentic Japanese cuisine in Dumaguete, I would not recommend Wakagi.

... and as everybody knows, you can put on a wishlist all you want, but when the big day comes you get a pair of socks. Wakagi has all on the main menu (shared with another restaurant) and it is a safe bet that 75%...More
To begin, I must mention that I lived in Japan for 14 years. The only other review I saw here was from a Japanese person, but I doubted any Japanese would praise their food. Wakagi is not a standalone restaurant, but rather a part of the main restaurant's menu. Reviewing the menu was somewhat pointless since very few items listed were actually available. I attempted to order some Eda Mame (soy beans) as a starter while we decided on our other dishes, but they were not available. We then tried to find another starter and inquired about the Wakagi salad. When asked what it consisted of, the waiter simply replied, "vegetables." This lack of specificity was not very appealing to us. We then looked at the sashimi and sushi options, but many items we wanted to order, such as salmon, were not available. Ultimately, we settled on some temaki, which was disappointing as the rice was warm, causing the seaweed to become soggy and the filling to be sparse. The salad, which we had not actually ordered, had an overwhelming amount of lettuce with minimal toppings. Service was lacking as well, as we had to search for a waiter to order another drink. My wife ordered the Itame, which she found to be good despite the abundance of fat in the pork. I opted for the Nabeyashi Udon, but the noodles were overcooked and the tempura was drowned in sauce, resulting in a mushy mixture. Overall, if you are in Dumaguete and looking for Japanese cuisine, I would not recommend Wakagi.
