Allen's is three of them. Normally you enter and the buzzer alerts the staff that a customer has arrived. Your first encounter is the little nook that the Post Office presents surrounded by homewards. Then more upstairs as well and then the coffee shop. Even with Covid 19 there is lots of room to socially distance. This visit found the whole shop twisted around. So clothing has taken over the entrance and homewards moves down the shop. The coffee shop has an exit and a hatch which passing drivers pop up to rather than go through the shop. We had a lovely coffee and scones. The bad news is that there is no gluten free options at the moment. Luckily my wife was allowed take in some gluten free cake from the car. Glad to see it open again.
Allens is a charming and unique establishment that offers more than just coffee. In addition to serving delicious coffee, they also sell furniture, home decor, and cute Christmas trinkets. What started as a quick coffee stop turned into a shopping spree as we explored the two-story shop spread across three houses. Parking is plentiful on the street, but watch out for traffic on the busy street corner. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, able to answer any questions about allergies. We ended up getting our coffee to go as we had a meeting in Dublin and had spent so much time browsing the shop. The post office within the shop is a convenient touch - you can purchase a gift, have it wrapped, and mail it all in one place. A great way to kick off the holiday season!
Nice place to break the journey from Dublin to Donegal. Ideal for a tasty bit of food and the waitresses are very friendly. Lovely furniture and homeware shop in the building. Reasonable prices.
Went to this beautiful exterior of a cafe today but extremely disappointed with the whole experience. From the minute we walked in no acknowledgement of custom. Waitresses did not engage or interact in any way. Place was cold and no atmosphere. No water available and coffee never arrived or food after a lengthy wait. We left unfed and got meal refunded. Never got to look round shop as it was the worst experience. Do not recommend. Will not return.
"By chance, I happened to be passing by and decided to stop in for a drink and a meal. I noticed about 10 police motorcycles across the road from the cafe, and put two and two together that Prince Charles must be in the area. The service was a bit slow in taking my order, as there were three orders ahead of me. However, the food came out as ordered and it was nice to have homemade bread instead of commercial bread. Everything was as expected. It seems like it may be a while before they are as busy again."
