The seafood is very good and there is a lot of it for the price this is not an atmosphere to wow, just good seafood in a large restaurant. Service was good and the place was a good value. Compared to other Durham area seafood restaurants, seek this one out mainly for the fresh seafood with a decent price.
My family and I used to love Kenp's. However, after turning into an expensive and poor quality/poor value fast food restaurant we will never return. I understand that the owner has experience in the food industry. This is shocking since the moment you walk in the door of Kemp's, you get the sense of a doomed establishment. No ambiance, non-existent service, poor quality food served on styrofoam plates, and prices that makes no sense. It is just a matter of a very short time before this place folds. Too bad, too, it used to be a good choice for seafood.
I will NEVER go to Kemps again. Since they changed the format, it is now nothing but a big fast food joint (well, an expensive fast food joint). My husband got the fried oysters which he used to love there, but now everything (even dine-in) is served in styrofoam to-go containers, they were very soggy and not good at all. I ordered the fish of the day which was the grilled salmon. It was way overcooked and tasted like it came straight out of the freezer. I could not eat it. The atmosphere was bad and the food was bad. I can't believe the owners thought this was a good idea. Who wants to go out to eat spend on average $11 a person and not even have a plate to eat from or real utensils? I would not recommend this place to ANYONE!! I wish I could give it ZERO stars!
I had a group of 8 adults and two children. I called ahead to check for reservations and/or larger group seating. Neither is available. First come first served (only applies to small group 4 or less). Upon arrival I was given the beeper and told I had a twenty minute wait. Not bad and should be able to control two little guys for that amount of time. After checking with the desk several times during the next HOUR... we finally were seated at the HOUR ;TWENTY ; mark. Food was plentiful but marginal prepared at best. It will be a long time before we return and never with a group bigger than 4. They just don 't have the seating process working.... even though the advertisement that I saw on the television last night says ;NO WAITING ;. One other note Kemp’s does not have a web site to contact them directly. Hope somebody there reads these comments.
