I work in retail, so I tend to lean on the good side when it comes to being served by people who have to deal with the public. but today at Mutt’s bbq I came close to being “the guy”. I went about 1 o'clock and asked for a teller for me and a tour for my wife who was at home sick with this cripple that goes around. the lady who edited the register has instructed me on my sign and said she should come back to her before I get the seduction for my sick woman. So after I had eaten my food, I went back to her and said I would like to get the tour for my wife now. she informed me that I couldn't have a piece of chicken and a nativity that my wife asked me because they were “slow”. it was now at 2 o'clock and I think they close at 2:30 o'clock. there was no one suitable for eating, and there were every amount of meats at the bar. I asked her why she could not only have one of everyone, and again I was told, "because we are low." her rudeness escalated when I called my wife to see if she wanted something else. as my wife said that she didn't want to pull a pork or a chicken, and wanted to pick up from somewhere else, my geduld ended with the rudeness of the dame. I asked her: “This is not a customer, unless they eat?” at this point she turned and went away from me and disappeared around the corner never again. I did not ask for a discount and was willing to pay what the price would be for the execution. money wasn't the problem. my “Suspicion” is that, as it was almost closing time, they wanted to stick to these things for themselves. again I say that this is only a “suspicion” on my part, as there are no customers in the line for each of the foods and it was so close to the closing time. I met the owner of mutt a few years ago when I served him at my office. we had a good talk about the food industry and the event he had held there with ted cruz, which I visited. he came to me as a very nice guy and I did my best to serve him well. but today I am most disappointed at the service that I have received from its facility and will think long and hard before I will ever go back. after my wife was sick 3 days in bed, my wife returns to work tomorrow. we will probably never return to mutt again. we get a lot of new restaurants in easley and mutt’s just liked the bottom of the list. Even in this current social environment, it is so rude for me that people can be so ruthless and unobservable to others.
It's been a while since we've been, so we decided to give it another try. I won't make that mistake again. The food is so-so at best. Ribs were fatty, BBQ was bland, veggies were out of a can. Wait staff was nice when we saw them, but our waitress swung by out table one time to check on us, and barely did that. The kicker for me was when one of the waitresses brought a bucket of ice to the drink station. She used the bottom of the bucket to push the ice around (no telling where it had been sitting). On the second bucket, she stuck her hand in the machine and moved the ice around. Not sanitary at all.
At my job we were given a catered Christmas lunch by Mutt’s BBQ of Easley. The menu was pulled pork, pulled chicken with a bun, ribs, green beans, mac and cheese, sweet potato soufflé and lemonade or tea. You could choose either pulled pork or chicken. I chose the pulled chicken. The pulled chicken did not have any seasoning at all, it was dry and tasted like canned chicken. The green beans tasted like they just opened the can and warmed them. The mac cheese was just that Macaroni with some cheese sauce I didn’t bother trying the sweet potato soufflé. The best part of my meal was the lemonade, it was delicious. I appreciated the gesture of a Christmas meal, but Mutt’s BBQ will not be on my list of places to dine in Easley.
The staff today was super friendly. They were helpful, polite, and all had smiles on their faces. It was nice to be greeted this way and at the buffet again another employee with a beautiful smile on her face. It was very welcoming. After getting our food, we went and sat down. I didn't see tarter sauce but wanted it and didn't mention it. I was approached by the lovely lady from the buffet and she took notice that I choose fish, she asked me if I wanted tartar sauce. I was thrilled sje took that initiative! She brought me some and we enjoyed our meal. I was a little skeptical on the fish... I couldn't tell if it was cooked through in some areas. So I put it to the side and I enjoyed the ribs, potato salad and fried okra the most. I also liked the hush puppies. I typically don't like hush puppies but these were good. We had a wonderful lunch and I would go back again. Just as we were welcomed when we came, we were told to have a blessed day as we left with a wave and a smile and it was absolutely appreciated. We hope to stop in again soon.
