Called in to ask if they would be open for dinner on the following Monday. The barmaid assured me they would however when we turned up pub was shut! Hard to understand this sort of behaviour! Pathetic customer service! They don't deserve to be running a pub in such a beautiful location! On talking to other villagers this is not the first time it's happened! We have told lots of local people of our negative experience!
Had to stop in Witchford as the traffic was horrendous going into Ely, and rather wished we hadn't. First of all it was freezing cold in the bar, even though I was sitting right next to the wood burner. Secondly, all they were serving was a sandwich or soup. We chose 2 bowls of soup, which incidentally were tiny and out of a carton, one coffee and one pint of shandy and we were charged £25!! Needless to say, we will not be returning...
Due to covid we were not able to eat in the pub, and had the takeaway menu offered. The team there are really friendly and welcoming; and the food was amazing. A good range of food options were available. The nut roast was delicious really flavoursome and a very hearty serving. Followed by a tasty homemade apple crumble and custard. Really looking forward to going back after the restrictions are lifted for a meal with the family. Very impressed with the welcome, delicious food and reasonable price would definitely recommend.
This is a lovely pub in a rural village. Staff are warm, welcoming, efficient. Food was great (one of the best gammon steaks I 've had) but my vegetable soup was flavourless watery. Everyone else 's food was good. This is a great pub but could be vastly improved with decor it lacks any charm or atmosphere. The previous tenants painted walls pale blue, in order to 'freshen it up ' i suspect, except it just makes the whole place feel cold, it clashes with the classical style dark woodwork of the (gorgeous) bar furniture (hint: a modern, v dark green would perfectly compliment the dark wood brass fittings). Inexplicably, there have been no lampshades on the wall lights for years now, which makes the lighting harsh further detracts from any atmosphere quite off putting. Outside looks bare unkempt. So much more could be made of the terrace at the front garden at the back. I realise it may take time to accuire the funds to improve, especially in these trying times, but i hope the new tenants give this pub the revamp it needs to restore it to warm cosy village pub once again. A lick of paint , lampshades, a little planting would be a good place to start make a huge difference. But good luck to these lovely folk, I hope they get the support they need from villagers their brewery during these most trying of times.
