Great variety of fish, usually extremely fresh, but like any fresh market, you have to be a wise consumer. Know what kind of fish is in season locally, or ask the gentlemen who run the place where the fish you 're interested in is from. Also know what a fresh whole fish looks like. At times I 've seen some variation in freshness and simply chose a different fish if there was any cloudiness in the eyes of the fish, for example. Overall, our family loves having a great variety of fresh fish to choose from, and we travel a good 20 minutes to get our fish there every Friday.
Place don't look sanitary at all, fish is handled very poorly I can't recommend it to anyone. Employees need to get training on how to handle food that people will eat with their families. I had a very distasteful experience and just by looking at the other comments on here looks like I am not the only one. The Kearny's health department should step in definitely.
A little nervous to defrost the 1lb of salmon and 2lb of shrimp i paid 40$ for, after seeing the other reviews on here. This place did not seem sanitary, and if i weren't in a rush i would've given my purchase a second thought.
Today, May 6,2019 3:30 Bought $40 with of fish and shrimp. Got it home and it smelt like bad farts. Brought the fish back and to my delight, got my money back quickly. In fact so quickly i'm left to believe the guy knew damn well he was selling garbage.
