I recently dined at Home Kitchen and was utterly disappointed. Not only did they fail to bring out a dish we ordered, but they also had the audacity to try and charge us for it. Despite my insistence and proof from their own CCTV footage that the dish never made it to our table, the staff remained stubborn and unapologetic. The whole experience was frustrating and left a bitter taste in my mouth. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience. Food: 1 Service: 1
Dishonest and unpleasant woman on cashier. Even though I was paying cash she tried to charge card surcharge on the total bill, and she would look angry at me when I challenged her on this. She waved her hands like a shut up gesture and in the end she would only give me change in cash that still added a surcharge. I couldn't believe it! No apology but just grumpy and still give me less change than she needed to. We will never come back Meal type: Dinner Price per person: A$40–60 Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2
Overall: 5 7 this place randomly has a lot of very classic Shanghainese dishes which are a fair attempt at the originals. The service is a bit suss though as one of the dishes we ordered (via app) was randomly cancelled and no one actually came up to tell us. Overall this place has good value and decent tasting food. You may be disappointed taste wise if you’re looking for shang food but they definitely look correct and are very nostalgic. Pan fried buns 生煎包: 5 7 They make these the right way up! This is the yeasted version with a “puffier” skin. Not my preference, but much better executed than most other places like ding tai fung or taste of shang. The filling is quite good and still has some soup. The skin isn’t too thick and it doesn’t feel too bready. Braised eel Shanghai style: 4 7 A very nostalgic dish and impressive to see so much eel at this price. However their execution of flavours and preparation of the eel was a bit lacking. The eel texture was a bit mushy and the flavours weren’t great needed to be a bit stronger and saltier. Rice crust with fish fillet and tomato: 4 7 The puffed rice thing was really nicely done and worked well with the viscous tomato soup sauce thing. The soup however doesn’t taste particularly great and doesn’t have a lot of depth of flavour. Kind of overpowered by the tomato Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: A$20–40 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Pan Fried Pork Buns
