Unfortunately just before leaving, we were browsing the gallery and heard some very unpleasant shouting coming from the kitchen, which included swearing. A lovely visit ruined as whichever woman shouting and swearing did so loud enough to upset my youngest daughter. We were planning to return after learning of puppet shows later in the week but I don’t want my young children hearing such language again. Such a shame.
Have visited here on numerous occasions but today was definitely an ‘off day’ We waited a bit too long for our meals today, hot drinks and cakes were served after about 15 mins, then after about another 10 minutes I enquired about our sandwich toastie and was told in was’ in the grill now ‘ anyways in another 17 minutes in arrived, hot ?! But on the plus side the sandwich was gorgeous , will definitely go again, but I would suggest more staff, as it wasn’t very busy.
This cozy cafe has a warm atmosphere and offers delicious food and drinks at a reasonable price. We stopped here during our cycling trip and enjoyed coffee, tea, toasties, and cakes, all of which were fantastic.
Visited with my wife and cousin where we'd booked an early lunch. Very good choice of vegetarian dishes and prompt, friendly service. We had paninis with goats cheese beetroot and horseradish (bit light on the horseradish actually), and an omelette with a selection of fillings I chose goats cheese, red onion, peppers and mushrooms. All nicely cooked and presented with a lovely side salad. Oh, and a serving of delicious chips. We opted to take away a pud apple and blackberry crumble with a very generous helping of cream. Delicious when we eventually ate it. Overall very good, and a nice gift shop/ art gallery to wander about in. Insider tip avoid 12 noon on a Sunday. Unless you enjoy observing MAMILS Middle Aged Men in Lycra. The place is popular with the local cycling club. Enough said...
Not having been able to visit Upfront for three years due to Covid and travel restrictions, we were eagerly awaiting a further visit on our visit to the UK and the lakes. In fact, Upfront was high on our list of places to visit so a table was booked. However, the restaurant was the quietest we have ever experienced…maybe a little to near to Christmas. The menu contained some of our favourite dishes so it was difficult to decide what to order. When our food arrived, sadly it wasn’t up to the standard we had become used to. The lower layers of pasta in the lasagne, were undercooked and rubbery and the butter bean curry dish was very bland and lacked flavour. The homity pie and quiche dish were fine though. Onto the sweets and we can’t resist a crumble! Unfortunately, we were disappointed once more. The crumble didn’t crumble! It consisted of lumps of crumble and wasn’t particularly hot. One of our party tried the pancake with mixed fruits but, like the lasagne, the pancake was rubbery and was basically inedible. So overall, despite being good in parts, our meal was disappointing and certainly not up to the standards previously experienced. However, the staff, as usual , were wonderful…friendly and professional. We won’t be put off though and next time we visit the UK, Upfront will be high on our list of places to visit.
