Feedback gevenOn our first trip to Eden we decided to give this cafe a go as it was conveniently located next to the wharf with a lovely view. Since it was a cold day the fact that it has a heated indoor section appealed. However we were soon to realise we had made a terrible mistake. When ordering there are the usual signs for "take away menu" and next to the till there are more menus lying. This seems normal for a cafe and one assumes the other menus are the same as the menu on the board as in any other place I have ever been in. But here is where it gets complicated. You order at the same place but the menus, which at first glance look the same, are actually for different areas in this place. Order from the take away board (fish & chips & salad $15.90) and you are allowed to sit in the unheated section of the place and you have to buy, yes BUY plastic cutlery if you need them for your meal, plus you get no choice in what fish you want and the fish definitely is neither local nor fresh. Don't expect the common courtesy of being asked whether you want to buy some of the invisible plastic cutlery, even though selling salad seems to indicate the need for it. However if you order from the menus lying next to the till (fish & chips & salad $16.90) you can sit in the heated section of the place, which I assume also offers cutlery, although expect to pay extra if, god forbid, you should need an extra plate or any extra cutlery. Unfortunately the same rude man will be taking your order, although now at least you can choose between 4 types of fish - which he will no doubt inform you of in the same irritated tone as he does everything. I assume the man working the till is the owner as any owner would have fired an employee that is that rude to customers, but other than being rude he oozes irritation and you get the distinct impression that your ordering food from his place is a huge annoyance to him and he thinks you are an idiot. I made the mistake of not ordering from the "correct" menu (not having noticed the menus next to the till at first and having not been informed that there is a difference) and we were rudely told off for walking in the direction of the heated section after ordering. When I eventually figured out from the barked information that there was a menu ($1) difference, I was not allowed to change my order and we were forced to sit in the cold and eat our food with our hands until I went looking for extra sauce and saw the tiny sign tucked away in a corner giving the prices of plastic cutlery. Definitely a place to avoid if you wish a to have a pleasant meal next to the wharf. Buy your fish & chips ANYWHERE but here and go sit next to the wharf with it. Anyone who is this stingy and rude to their customers does not deserve any customers and should close their place and go be miserable by themselves at home.
Wharfside is our go-to in Eden but it isn't a fish n chip shop -- and isn't open on Mondays.. so we go to Great White Bite. Great fries and friendly staff (and good milk shakes!) Good quality takeaway.
Greasy, obviously imported fish with soggy chips cooked in what had to have been stale oil it tasted so bad, not to mention the grotty tables and floor - and when we asked the waitress if we could have a cloth to wipe the table down ourselves, she virtually snarled at us. About the only thing this place has going for it is the view, but with other restaurants and cafes taking in the same vista, I can only recommend people go elsewhere.
My wife and I visit this restaurant almost weekly to enjoy their delicious coffee, dim sims, and fish and chips. We love sitting on the bench across from the café, which offers one of the best views in Australia. The staff are friendly and always chat with us, making us feel like part of the family. The coffee here is better than any we have had in Sydney or Melbourne. The restaurant is located on Eden wharf, a working wharf where you can see fishermen, sailors, and tug boat captains in action. It is a beautiful and constantly entertaining place to visit.
The coffee mugs at this restaurant are huge! They are delicious and the coffee is great too. The view is wonderful. The service was a bit slow, but we were on holiday so it wasn't a big deal. The free wifi was a nice bonus. Overall, we had a great time here.
