Rhubarb is one of my favorite restaurants in edinburgh; it is luxurious and opulent, but without an intent. the hotel is located in the stunning prestonfield house hotel, the ambiente and the decor are both incredible. The circular dining rooms are decorated with Victorian style drapes, rich fabrics and antiques, and the large windows provide views of the beautiful grounds and arthur’s seat in the far away. I was twice for dinner in rhubarb and once for the afternoon and both were fantastic experiences. in the oktober I completed a three-day dinner in the frame of the edinburgh restaurant festivals. suppe, hake and a chocolate lava cake were presented all three courses beautifully and delicious. we finished the meal with a cheeseboard served in one of the drawing rooms on the upper level. four Scottish cheese, even paste, sourded honey and pastry cake was divine! Champagne afternoon tea was also lovely. it may not seem like a large amount of food, but my friend and I both stayed full and satisfied. there is a sortiment of sandwiches, two hearty objects, scenes with tinted sawn and marmelade and various cakes and sweets. Among the equipped are the fresh berths with homemade skyberry jam, goat cheese baked and chocolate personality macaron. the champagne was also beautiful. the service is top notch, and each personal member is friendly, welcoming and helpful. I cannot recommend rhubarb very much!
This place is spectacular! the location is stunning. Country house with dining rooms, details are incredible, service friendly and elegant, but not too much, even in jeans they can feel comfortable. the lounge rooms at the top are my favourite part, feel like back in time. not cheap, but every penny worth
I decided for dinner at rhubarb for the edinburgh restaurant festival, for my friend and me. the restaurant festival is a great chance to taste fine restaurants at a reasonable price. rhubarb has an excellent call; james thomson has a few first class restaurants in edinburgh, because these were my expectations very high. I love prestonfield house, it is a beautiful building and perfect for a cold autumn/winter evening. the restaurant is filled with heavy drapes and warm, crimson colors. the service we received here was great, except we had to ask for the edinburgh restaurant festival menu, although it was the menu that we wanted when booking. also the menu that is published online for the edinburgh restaurant festival differs from what we were given. to the luck it was a great menu. at the beginning I ordered the salmon, followed by the heke and finally the chocolate dessert. I enjoyed my whole meal, especially the chocolate desert, which was a chocolate melted lava cake. I would be the best part that I got all this delicious food for £25. I was pleasantly surprised to find that rhubarb would offer a 3-course menu for £35 with the festival, which would definitely encourage me to go back. I would also go back for a special occasion as it is a beautiful environment with a very exclusive feeling.
I was actually upstairs in what used to be the smoke room nestled by the fire and under plaster cupids for afternoon tea (which included a cheeky gin and tonic). The food was plentiful and pretty well faultless delicious sandwiches, mini savoury bites, plain and fruit scones with jam and clotted cream and four lovely little cakes. The tea itself was a little disappointing and I would say service was a little off (the door staff were lovely and attentive though). It wasn't all that practical having everything sit on a narrow, soft footstool (with our gin on the floor) though I suppose it added to the casual sumptuousness. But it's the kind of place I could spend hours in given the chance lounging on chairs curled up with wine and poking about the rooms, or perched outside in summer Great Gatsby style with a cocktail. Lookout for the sweet little nook off a stone turret stair which you can hire for two...
